Leaking Antifreeze…...

This is weird….. 94 Runner. The other morning driving to work I noticed a wisp of steam coming from under the hood. I popped the hood and the steam was coming from behind the block on the passenger side. There was a small puddle under the truck when I parked.

That afternoon I drove home after work and there was nothing under the runner when I got home. No steam either. Next morning it happened again. That afternoon it was completely fine.

THEN the next morning nothing happened, but in the afternoon it bled like a stuck pig. It comes and goes. Short trips, long drives. Doesn't matter. Nothing is consistent.

It's kind of sporadic, as you can tell. Never a lot but it drips onto the exhaust and smells like a dead cats ass. I've looked and looked and poked and prodded. I've even turned the heater controls back and forth. Even the AC running doesn't seem to affect it.

I can't find a pressure tester with the right size adapter for my radiator., but I'm looking for one.

Anyone have any ideas? Oil is fine, and it doesn't run bad so I don't think it's a head gasket. They were replaced by the previous owner.

you can use the old flour trick, throw a hand full of flour in the direction of the leak, it will stick to what is wet, and then with maybe an inspection mirror see where the leak originates. it works best with a real clean motor.

Well forget that, then……..

Sounds like a neat trick. I'll try it on a clean motor someday.
