Leaking Fuel Injector

Just got my truck back from the shop after replacing the knock sensor & sub harness. Drove it home... Heavy smell of gas in the cab. Popped the hood and found the gas leak, (1 injector on fuel rail) dripping down from the connector, (blue) onto the manifold. A pretty good puddle.

Got it towed back to the shop. They charged me for an injector seal kit, so I'm assuming they replaced all the "O" rings. They just called to tell me the injector has a leak from the body and not the ring. $600 to replace injector, parts and all.

Questions...

1) Can you diagnose the actual cause of the leak just by looking at it? I saw no visible cracks on the body.

2) If I decide to replace all the injectors, is it an absolute MUST to use OEM? This isn't my daily driver and I put maybe 2-3k on her each year. Guess I don't need the parts to last another 20 years.

3) If I get the other 5 injectors cleaned, does it matter if the new injector isn't the same brand? Meaning, to save cash, can I get the other 5 cleaned and just buy one new injector?

You all have always been a huge help. Thanks for your advice!

1)You can tell if the injector is leaking by your video or if it is running very rich?

you have to take it out to tell if it has a bad 0-ring on it and or crack in it.

2)You can use OEM but it isnt a must, its better to use OEM but i never had a problem not using them.

3) It doesnt matter that the injector isnt the same brand but it would help, because everything else would be not new and not as good as the one new injector. if i was you i would replace all of them, becuase there could be more then one that has gone that you cant tell let.

But you can buy one and use the rest as is, or buy one and get the rest Manufactured the other ones.

but if i was you, i would just buy all new ones. less problems down the road.

As a suggestion, pending on what u can afford to do...at minimum, do the 3 on the side you have to work on, and if you CAN afford all 6, by all means, do it. Wouldn't be a bad time to replace the fuel filter either. You could blow out the fuel rail and fuel lines all the way back to the filter, which is a pretty important procedure.

I didn't go OEM due to cost, i used a local store, they had come down to about $45 a piece but there is a core charge on each one, in case you didn't know. My truck had sat before i bought her so when i DID replace the injectors, there was debris and dirty gas up under each injector that had gotten through the filter. Try to vacuum or dry that up w/ a wrag, THEN blow out the lines IF you do the filter too.

I work at an automotive repair shop. We have sets of injectors go through a sonic cleaner regularly. We clean them more than we replace them. We have costumers who have 300k+ miles on their car with the OE injectors still going strong.

Having the other 5 cleaned while only replacing the 1 that is cracked is an acceptable practice.
