Leaking seal

I have a 2011 4R with 98K. NTB is telling me that my right rear seal is leaking. There is what appears to be grease on the brake rotor and some other areas of the hub. Has anyone else had trouble with this? What should I look for to make sure this isn't the typical NTB up-sell?

If there's oil on the inside of your wheel, it's an axle seal. They wear.

For good measure, check your diff breather isn't all gunked up. If they plug up with crud, the pressure buildup inside the can cause the axle seals to give way. This was a big problem with a nissan that I owned. I'm not saying that IS what happened with your 4runner, it's just a known issue with those little metal breathers. When I took mine off, there was a good 3-4 second hisssssss.....

I see the stock breather on the toyota looks very similar.

use some mineral spirits paint thinner and clean up this area . could be some grease was used for some reason on the rotor / hub mounting area.

check the rear diff fluid see if it holds proper level.

if the seal does leak then I would replace the wheel bearings as well.check for any scores on the races.
