My '03 shuts off the AC but leaves the fan running when the engine is off. Shouldn't be an issue. Is there any harm in leaving the AC on when you shut the vehicle off? Does the AC clutch automatically release when the engine is turned off?
I live in the wet Seattle area so I basically have the AC on 24/7/365. I never turn it off and have never noticed an issue in my Honda or 4Runner.
some do it thinking that it will dry out the evaporator and that in turn will not let mold grow that gives you that nasty smell.
Its always just because that is what their parents did.
Thanks for all the responses. A friend of mine was riding in my 4runner last week and noticed that i left the ac on when i turned off the engine and said that it is not good to do and i had never heard that before so, i thought i would ask.
Tell him to mind his own damn business or get somebody else to drive him around next time.
Having the AC off before starting the engine lightens the load when starting. Newer vehicles may (or may not) temporarily disable the AC when starting, over the years I've learned to turn the AC off before turning the engine off.
I know my 3 80's trucks won't do it, my 2000 Trooper maybe, and the 2010 Sonata probably.
And I'm moving this to the General discussion section.
