LED 3rd Taillight Question

Hi Everyone. Just recently joined and I'm looking for some help. This is my first post. Anyways, I recently just purchased a set of LED tail lights for my 98 4Runner. They were direct replacements and very easy to install. They work and look great. My question is actually with the 3rd tail light, which I have yet to do. I purchased an LED 3rd taillight from Spyder. I have attached photos of what I currently have and what I want to install. Below is the new LED light.



As you can see the old light has the bulb attached to a socket. The new light does not have this socket. My question is....Can I simply attached the old and new wires directly to each other or will I cause any issues if I do? And if I can, what wire goes to what? Does it matter?

Sorry for the amature questions. I just want to do it right the first time around and any help would be appreciated.

yep! just tap into the OEM wires. the red on the new light is power, so tap that to the green one and black wire to the white. Just a warning though, it didn't happen to me but you may get a ABS light with all LED's. My bulb was burnt out so i just left it in there to trick the system. Not really sure if it does anything but no ABS light for me.

Thank you GottaBeTRD for the information. So far I have not had the ABS light come on but we'll see what happens when the 3rd taillight goes in.

Well, it took awhile but I finally got the light installed and it works and looks great. So far the ABS light has only come on 2 times and I've driven at least a dozen or more times. Seems to intermittant and will be ignoring it for now. Thanks again for your assistance.

awesome! I'm curious, did you leave the bulb in when tapping into the wires?

I removed the original socket altogether. I still have it just in case the ABS light becomes bothersome but so far it's not an issue. If it does then I will do what you suggested.

On another note, I do want to start converting the front lights. I found some I like on eBay but all say "not compatible with your vehicle". I have attached what I'm looking for. Any ideas on this (where to get)?

Where would you put this light? (the row of amber lights pictured)

I want to use this in place of the current amber signal lights in front. I was thinking getting clear lenses instead of the amber currently installed with these strip LED's or something similar mounted behind the lens.

Any suggestions?

i had something like this stirring around in my head. Ill eventually do some LED turn signals in the front and rear. What I would do is pop open your existing lenses and stick a couple rows of the flexible LED strips. I have a set in my headlights that are pretty cool
