LED bulbs - license plate, interior etc

hey guys was thinking we could make a thread comparing LED bulbs from different companies and light output with pics.

i bought some off amazon awhile back and they light output was horrible/they didn't last very long (sorry didn't grab any pics) so i'm looking for a set or some nice license plate bulbs

so post where you bought them, what was included in the kit, price and some pics :) thx! :banana:

It's a really good idea, but for it to actually be worthwhile and useful, it would have to be completely objective and standardized in some way. It would ideally have to be a single user conducting all lighting tests and taking all pictures under identical conditions, same angles, same distances, with the same camera and same settings.

As with most things in life, you get what you pay for...so when in doubt go with a more reliable vendor like Vled. Their prices are a bit steeper, but the quality of the led bulbs are pretty good and their customer service is top notch (if you have a problem, they won't leave you high and dry).
 
even between the major brands ( VLeds and Superbrite) the output is totally different.

vleds tend to be more consistent in color/output intensity, but way more expensive per bulb/pack compare to the superbrites.

the customer service is probably better with the vleds with superbrite not far behind.

I went with vleds and the color matching (5k is what I went all around) seemed more consistent and output was more consistent. I have seen some posts of superbrites, but man those are overly bright compared to the vleds.

silly question, but for those that have done an all LED interior, does the key-in ignition chime go off when you open the door?


For example, press the door open button on the keyfob, open the door and then hear two bong bong chimes? (even though the key is not in the ignition)

Nope, the LEDs don't affect that, maybe you have some other issue? There's a keysense sensor at the ignition cylinder, maybe that's sticking or shorting somehow...

Are you sure the beeping chime you hear is exactly the same as when the key is in still in the cylinder and you open the door?

You want good bulbs for your license plate? Look no further! I am so satisfied with these bulbs. Looks as bright as shown on picture. Price is about $10.00 each.

Why LED's?

I'm totally unfamiliar with using LED's in cars. What's their advantage? Brighter output? Truer color? Less power consumption? I doubt it would be for longer life, because I don't think I replaced but a couple of bulbs on my Jeep in 12 years of owning it.

Brighter output, less power consumption, longer life, yes yes and yes. Not truer color, it's actually much worse than incandescent bulbs when it comes to color rendition index (CRI), lol. Color wise, I guess most of us (including myself) like the bling bling of the "whiter" appearance vs dimmer incandescent bulbs.

On the other hand, what you said about rarely replacing bulbs is correct, its not like incandescent bulbs burn out left and right either, but on paper LEDs are far more robust and have a longer life span. Practically speaking it's like say 10 years vs 50 years life span. Most of us will not keep vehicle long enough to see either one burn out :)
