LED Cubes as Fog Lights

I've been thinking and I plan on taking out my current fog lights and replacing them with LED Cubes. Now I need some opinions. There are two types of sizes. The 3" and 4" cubes. I did measurements and I got 4" height and 5" width (from the bottom). I've seen the forum LED foglight install in a 03 SR5. Rigid Industries D2.
Here are the two images and you guys just give me your thoughts on what you think will fit best.

why not just keep your OEM fogs? they will look and perform better with HIDs. I have 42W LED fogs in my shrockworks bumper and I liked my OEM fogs better.

I have those Cree lights. They work ok, haven't had fog to try them out yet though. I have the flood lights and I really wish they were brighter. I just put a pair on CBI Ditch brackets so as soon as I get the wiring harness for them I'll see if they are brighter up higher out of my bumper.

Do you want one, two, three, four or five sets?

Did you want rigid dually d2's?
Did you want China knockoff Cree? In spot or flood?
Did you want rigid in the stock locations? One or two pair?
Did you want China knockoff in stock location? Also one or two pairs?

You need to be specific lol.

I can give you pictures of almost all of those combinations. And then some.

Moved the pair of rigid Dually D2s from bumper to windshield ditch lights.
So windshield has 2 pairs ( 4 pieces of Rigid D2 Floods )
Bumper has 1 pair of china knockoff spots in the middle two and 1 pair of China Knockoff Cree floods on the outer pair.

You are going to ask, "If you removed the turn signal light, how are your turn signals working?" Ahh wouldnt you like to know. I'm not telling LOL

Some cutting and splicing, then some resistors tied in to the marker light up top in the headlight to make it both blink when the parking lights are on AND off!





NOTE/PSA: Rigid Dually D2's are high performance lighting. 4 of the cree knockoffs dont equal 1 pair of the D2's. Also for quick identification of the lights, Dually D2's have 6 leds, vs the cree have only 4. another tell tale giveaway, they say rigid industries on them

Yes, i have loads of lighting. considering a 50" also. like i need it. waiting for pricing and availability of the mounts when [MENTION=56044]downpour11[/MENTION] is done!

Nope, they wont be any better. I had my first set of rigids on the bumper area. then got my ditch brackets and put two sets of the 3x2" cheapo crees. lighting sucked. moved all 4 of them down to the bottom so they became DRL leds that are on all the time. using the rigid dually d2's on the ditch lights and one set blows away 2 sets of the crees.

The second picture you provided is exactly what I want to do. It would be the Cree knockoff ones whatever you want to call it in a flood pattern. A college student doesn't have money like that to buy the Rigid ones. Lol.

It would only be one cube in where the fog light would be; OME stock location. Turn signals would not be getting replaced.

Mine are Rigid, and I have the removable amber covers as well. My first thought is don't tint the windows so dark that you have to add lighting to see. I have HID's in the low beams and the fogs 5000K and the rigid come on during bad weather. Kind of off topic, but here is where I put mine at. Also china knock offs or Rigid, there is no cut off and should be used sparingly so you don't blind other drivers.

Ya, I wish I hadn't bought them, but it's cool. Later when I can afford the Rigid I will move the cheapo Cree lights somewhere for lighting around the truck to see the sides, behind, things like that that don't take as much lighting. Live and learn.

They won't and the HIDs will have a better beam pattern and a clear cutoff. I preferred them for fog lights and actually thought about doing a retrofit on some cheap fog light housings so they would fit my bumper.

If it was me, I would run HIDs in the stock fogs and add some aux LEDs like above.

I have the DDM 3000K HID kit in my fogs. They are a Significant upgrade light output wise from stock. And if you don't like the yellow, just grab some 4300K or 5000K.

These are all just with stock halogen headlights and the DDM 3000K fogs.

I've thought about the same thing, my DRL's are mismatched anyway.

If you actually want foglights that are useful for their purpose, all these seem to be poor choices. If you just want more light output, all others on the road be damned, then go ahead with the LEDs or HIDs, but just be aware of the glare that is involved.

I'm installing cubes for fogs, but I'm not expecting to get better output over stock. I just don't have any lower lighting and I really miss it.

My HID fogs in the 06 reflector fog housing don't reach higher than my halogens, ive never had a problem with lighting up the car in front of me, or with people flashing me for blinding them.

I will say that everytime I've seen the Dually cubes as fogs, whether on raptors or jeeps, they've had plenty of glare up to my eyes. So if you do go the cube route, be sure to get them with lenses that direct the light well so that you can aim them more effectively.

There is no unwanted glare from HIDs as the OEM fog housings are projectors with a cutoff shield

03-05 have different bumpers

Dude with a 5% all around and 35% on windshield then installing more lights because you cant see since you tinted your windshield, THATS STUPID. Im calling it as i see it. I run my lights as drls and turn them off at night and use my headlights retrofitted with a proper projector HID. Retrofitting your oem with HID and fogs with HID is blinding too since its not made for HIDs.

Yes ALL MY LIGHTS are NOT DOT approved because they produce glare and they are not used at night on the road.

Yep they do. thats what the duallys are meant for...offroad use, the duallys do not have a correct beam pattern to be driven for on road useage. none of the rigid products are approved for on road as far as i know.

This is a great point since you have the 03-05. 35W HIDs will completely fulfill your goal

And I agree with gshadow on the tinting. Knowingly inhibiting your vision out of the car so significantly is really quite irresponsible in terms of safety to the remainder of the people on the road. High quality tints can provide ridiculous levels of UV and heat blocking with almost zero actual tinting to them. Check out Spectra photosync. Have the 75% on my windshield and 35% on the front and rear, keeps my car significantly cooler during the day, me significantly cooler when I'm driving, and I can see equally as well as when there was no tint on the windows.

Sure they do, I had an 06. The fog cutoff wasn't that clean, there might not be a ton of glare but there was some because there is light leakage above the cutoff line.
