I recently received these, and preliminary feedback is positive from an output and hi-beam indicator stand-point.

Now about 27 bucks:

I drove only about 10 minutes last night, and it seems they are not impacting other drivers. I will situate our family car in front of it tonight in the front yard...

I am seeing more and more of the LEDs on the road. IMO, they are all borderline too bright to oncoming traffic so I generally do not flick my hi beams off and on because I already know they are LEDs. The ones on the big trucks, like the 18 wheelers are most blinding. My mother just recently mentioned that she may have to stop driving because of the glare of oncoming lights recently. She thought something was wrong with her eyes. (she's a healthy 70) She didn't even know about LEDs until I mentioned them. I got her that As Seen on TV anti glare visor. I see something like this becoming standard on cars with the advent of LEDs in newer cars.

I can see pretty good with regular bulbs or the Silverstars. I think SOME people just like to have the "Biggest, Baddest, Brightest etc" Please think of your fellow drivers out there on the road. Just my opinion. Now flame away.

Putting LED bulbs in a reflector housing is basically doing the same thing as the old drop-in HID kits into the factory housing, just not quite as bad. Still the best way to do it is to throw some kind of projector in place (HID or LED) so that the cutoff/output is properly controlled.

I think DOT standard must have changed over the years. Small new passenger cars with projectors are super bright and sometimes have little to no cut-off. When I drive our sedan, I am blinded by brand new cars on a regular basis. I have to point my side mirrors down it's so bad (I have cataracts so it makes my whole vision blur).

that's because these and other bulbs like them (e.g. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-g...i-lo-beam-led-bulb-awesome-3.html#post3106076) place the light source in the same place/direction as OEM halogen bulbs (downward towards reflector then around main reflector and forward) so of course they'll shine they same way without blinding and with the same cutoff.

There are DOT-approved LED headlights for 30 bucks, maybe even less. Some LED solutions that were not blessed by the DOT before, got approval recently because the manufacturers simply applied and got approval (their products already qualified). Others have had to make improvements to get approval.

LEDs aftermarket headlights are getting better.
