LED headlights

Today I received a set of 9003/H4 LED headlight bulbs. Installed the bulbs and immediately noticed that the high beam dash indicator was not working as well as all of the dash lights were flickering on and off at random. These were installed in a 97 Runner with V6. All stock. Swapped the original lights back in and everything is working back to normal. Any ideas on what is going on? Thanks in advance.

What ballast kit are you using with those?
 
Whatever came in the box. They are EOS CAN BUS safe LED. They have a pigtail off the back with a ballast attached. I used the same set up in my bosses 05 Acura RL and 02 Lexus RX300 and they worked perfect. Plug and play.

Unplug one, and see if problem clears. If not, plug that one back in, and unplug the other.

If that fails, uninstall one and reinstall a regular bulb. See if that clears it up. If not, try the other side. If all that fails, return the set as they won't work. I have OPT7 set in my 2001, and haven't had an issue.

Everything works fine with 1 LED (either one) and 1 Halogen (either side) but when I add in the second LED everything freaks out. I loose my high beam indicator on the dash and the dash lights will intermittently turn on and off.

What has everyone else running LED headlights had success with? These were the Optix EOS Can Bus LED kit. LED-EOS-H4 from Amazon.

The 3rd Gen US 4runners are not canbus cars, but running canbus shouldn't create the problem you describe.

FWIW, when I had cheapo LED H4s I the high beam indicator did work, but since I've upgraded to DDM retrofit projectors I've also lost the high beam indicator. DDM tech support suggested changing the pin out of the headlamp connector, but that does not appear to be an option for you as your's look like moulded plugs
 
At this point I'm seriously thinking that something is wrong with the lights themselves. Even though they work individually when put together something is wrong internally in the ballast causing the problem.

I looked at the amazon listing for the kit you bought, says 2 Years Warranty and Lifetime Tech Support.

I would try their Tech Support, and if it doesn't work our, and you got them with Prime, when you go to return them select the Quality Not as Expected option for 100% hassle-free no cost return.
 
Look at your schematic.
On the first-gens the high beam indicator relies on the LOW-BEAM filament to provide the ground to it. Meaning, there needs to be certain amount of current "leaking' through the LOW-BEAM filament in order to ground the negative side of the high-beam indicator bulb.
If the leakage though the LOW-BEAM LED light is not enough, then it will prevent the high-beam indicator from lighting up.

P.S. I hope that is a DOT-legit headlight so you do not join the legions of A$$holes who blind others with their improperly cut-off / lensed headlights

If the leakage though the LOW-BEAM LED light is not enough, then it will prevent the high-beam indicator from lighting up.

This is why DDM advised me to "play with the pins" and try different pinouts where their harness connects to the factory 3-prong headlamp connector. Have I done it yet, no.

Original factory housing, new LED bulb so light cutoff will stay the same.

There has been much discussion about super bright LEDs in factory housings, that were designed for halogen bulbs, casting light more above the cutoff causing the blinding effect previously mentioned.

Too bad the 3rd-gen does not take standard 5" x 7" bulbs/housing; That would allow use of plug and play Truck-Lites that are DOT approved, have sharp cut-off, excellent spread and much brighter but uses less power than standard halogens.

I Just ordered LUMENIS 9003 from LED Light Street for my 3rd gen 97. I had similar issue where Leds work fine, but the brights indicator on dash is incredibly dim, nearly off.
Have not solved yet, but maybe an issue of light rotation? See this diagram from LED Light Street for not 9003 lights, but similar
