LED kits for 5th generation 4runner(Help needed)

Jaker - Did you add bases when you ordered these boards??? If so which one, there's like 6 to choose from.
You'll need the 31mm festoon style base. I believe the only option from the current listing on the website is the 31-42 mm festoon base (which is perfectly fine...it has a little spring which expands to fit 42 mm applications, but when compressed it fits a 31 mm application).

Unfortunately V-LED is out of stock on the 194's and the less bright dome light bulb. I'll search the amazon ones a little more...reviews are up in the 4-star range but quality is an issue for some LED's bought through amazon vendors.

Forgot to ask does anyone know what bulb base size the rear hatch is...31mm? 42mm?

Thanks!

I ordered some from Amazon on Sunday when I saw V-LEDs were out of stock...I'll let you know the quality once they arrive. They should actually be here today or tomorrow.

I ended up ordering all my LED's from a company called Custom Wheels on Amazon...spent about $45 bucks shipped for 20pcs - 194's, 2pcs - festoon 6 LED (for dome light I have a 1 yr old in the back and did not want to blind him lol) and 2 pcs - festoon 12 LED (for hatch). Thanks Jaker for the bulb sizes and gamerc for the Amazon info did not know they were sold their...

Personally it omits enough light for my liking but I know others like it super super bright and go with the LED boards for the dome & hatch.

Have installed all of the lights last night except for the dreaded puddle lights, they look easy just a little intimidating when dealing with your side mirrors...will read up on it on here and attempt tonight.

A couple installation notes/observations from my end:
- Found most of the installation tips from page 11 of this thread (thanks Mason)
- Check to make sure that the LED's bulbs light up before putting the cover on, for some reason I had one bulb not work period (could be defective), and one case I just flipped the bulb around to opposite connection points and it worked +/- charge?
- Dome light is supposed to be 31mm festoon base however I had a hell of a time squeezing the 31mm festoon LED that I got into the slot, the connector pins are not as flexible as the hatch, bulb that I received could be more than the 31mm???
- Vanity mirrors for some reason the lights did not work after installation? Tried putting the oem's back in and they did not work as well? Not really sure why but will dig in to this later today...maybe blown fuse?
- Also the rear hatch festoon bulbs, I mistakenly ordered 42mm instead of 31mm, however the metal connection points are flexible enough to where you can adjust them to fit the 42mm (glad I did not have to send back and wait for 31mm).
- Lastly just walking around the car last night with all the doors open I did notice that the door handles have some type of lighting coming above the interior handles themselves, not sure if there are bulbs located maybe in the door panel? It's very minimal and probably not worth the hassle however folks are probably a little more anal than me on that type of stuff lol
- Quality of the bulbs seemed good, some of the metal connection pins from the 194 bulbs were different in length (not the bulb housing) but for the most part all seemed to work. The real question that I can not answer is the reliability??? It's been 1 day so far and I am happy...they could start to go out or start the annoying flickering anytime just have to wait and see!
- I know I know...it didn't happen w/o pics...will try to get some up this weekend

So LED,
I tried to PM You but your inbox is full. I'm starting to have problems with one of my license plate LEDs. It's dim and sometimes not on at all. I'm not sure if the led is starting to die on me or if it's something else. All my other ones work perfectly. Let me know what you think.

I will send you a replacement! I will contact you tomorrow!

I was initially gone from the forum because I got overstacked at work and school, was only planning to be gone until late may but got extended because I got knee'd in the shin mid may while playing basketball, aside from the heavy bruising which delayed my projects at work, it took longer for me to recover and get back on here. Glad to see people found other sources but I am also back here officially! I am going to reply to the pm's tomorrow as I recount, check and double check what I have available! Price cuts are also coming, while I was out I tried to make sure I could come back with better pricing, so lots and lots of emails were sent out to negotiate that:) Expect 10-15% price cuts beginning tomorrow. Sorry again to those who pm'ed me while I was out and recovering

KBCarStuff

Thought I'd chime in on LEDs for 5th Gen. I would strongly advise based on my recent transaction with KBCarStuff to stay far, far away from them. Not only did I realize that their prices are highly inflated relative to places like Amazon for Putco products, their customer service lacks integrity and in general seem very slippery.

In my specific scenario they misconfigured a Dome package (Toyota 4Runner w/sunroof LED Dome Lights) that was priced at $95 (~$81 after coupon). After receiving the package and doing the install I realized only the map lights (194s) and one of the dome lights could be used. They claim I was charged only for 1 x 194 pair and 1 dome, but for the exact same items they run a total of ~$42. They are genuine Putco sold by Amazon, not some third party too.

I was totally shocked at KBCarStuff's unwillingness to make the situation right or even offer some sort of concession. So, I am now left with a wallet that is ~$40 lighter and an extra dome light that probably won't see use for years.

FWIW, I ended up taking the rest of my business to Amazon and V-LEDs. Both were great and very fast in delivery. I got the remaining Putco 194s from Amazon for ~$19 a pair and the rear tail lights from V-LEDs, but based on experience from V-LEDs I may well take some future business to them as well, was very impressed with speed of delivery and the product.

His pm box is still full but I ordered a set from him for my 4th gen and no drama. Now I have a 5th gen 2012 Limited t4r. Would like interior light kit with lic plate lights. How much and how do I pay? My mailbox is empty, PM me.

The information for piecing together this kit can be found in this thread (from one of my previous posts).

Yep. You'll need twelve 194/168 LEDs (for a Limited, of course). This involves two for the map lights, two for the vanity mirror lights, two for the side mirror puddle lights, four for the door courtesy lights, and two for the license plate lights.

For the rear hatch you'll need two 3175 base/adapter LED boards.

For the dome light you'll need one 3175 base/adatpter LED board

FYI: I personally thought the dome light was way too bright and ended up "downgrading" to this bulb (matches the map lights perfectly). However, if you'd still like a really bright light, I'd recommend this bulb instead over the LED board.

Questions

Jake, with your post I think I can figure out what to order. My question is this. Are these parts I am ordering a direct swap or must I put ends / adapters etc on them. As far as TOO bright. I don't think that's possible for these old eyes AND a full black interior!

Been reading thru this thread and guess I missed it but was looking to order just not sure on which ones for the rear hatch, on the v-led site has a base type, so I'm not sure which one to choose.

Sorry I missed this post. The parts you're ordering will be a direct swap.

The base type you need is the 31mm to 42mm festoon.

Sorry did I miss something in the 31 pages?

Oh it's okay. I'm not actually upset or anything. Just being dramatic. :D

The vendor isn't all too active on this site anymore. I believe the last time he logged in (according to his profile) was July 24th.

Basically, you're going to have to source your own kit, but the instructions on how to do so have been posted a few times in this thread by yours truly. Just scroll a few posts up and you'll see where I explained what's needed.
