LED Light Bar//Headlight Issue

Hey everyone,

I just recently installed a hidden LED lightbar and ran into an issue. After the install, I realized that when I lock my car, the headlights will not turn off with the car. It is a 2016 TEP. Any help is very much appreciated.

How did you wire the light bar?

I am guessing you used the headlights as a hot trigger for a relay. Probably should just wire it up separately.

I'm a complete noob when it comes to electrical. I don't know exactly what you mean but I wired it on its on directly to the battery.

Are you saying the switch doesn't work? If it's wired directly to the battery and a switch in the circuit why would turning the car on or off do anything to the led bar

The switch works fine but ever since I installed the led light bar, if I were to leave my headlights in the on position > turn off the car > then try to hit the lock button, my headlights will not turn off.

Before the installation, the headlights would turn off when I hit the lock button on the key. Now it doesn't

Does your in-cabin lightbar switch have a light/is it backlit so that it lights up when your lightbar lights up?

If so - did you use a t-tap to hack into a hot wire (utilizing the headlight wiring circuit) to make that switch light up?

If so - you could've created a false "hot" which could be making your headlights think they are supposed to stay on. Check into that.

Otherwise, if that's not what you did, I'm not sure why your headlights would stay on when the car turns on. I have a lightbar in my grille, wired it directly to the battery and to an in-cabin switch (backlit switch at that), and don't have this issue.

Let us know!

Was that with hitting the lock button once, or twice? Mine does not shut off the headlights immediately unless I hit the button twice. I believe if you lock it once the lights will turn off after a wait time, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Need to hit the lock button 2X to shut the lights off, just wanting to make sure you're doing it right. If the lightbar is wired direct to the battery, it should have no effect on how your headlights function.

i doubt the light bar has anything to do with the headlights if its wired directly to battery. And like the others said, you gotta hit lock twice or once and wait like 20 secs before headlight turns off.
