Also, have you considered becoming a site sponsor? To my knowledge, we don't yet have a sponsor that deals with lights specifically. It would be great to have you on board!

I actually am a supporting site sponsor as of yesterday, but I haven't been officially announced yet. I guess you've just spilled the beans, haha. I got my materials to Daniel (great guy to deal with) a bit late yesterday, so I'm sure he'll get around to processing everything soon.

I guess that makes me the only LED light guy now- sweet!

To answer your question, YES, I'll definitely do a group buy if there's interest. Let me know what the procedure is for setting up the GB, and I'll make it happen. T4R.org members already get a discount, but the discounts would definitely be greater with a group buy.

Thanks for the heads up- that was a typo. I recently switched suppliers for the ES series, and I had the specs mashed together there. All fixed now.

The ES Series lights are IP65 rated, meaning they are protected against dust intrusion, and water jets from all directions. I wouldn't worry too much about that number unless you're mounting your lights in a place where they may be submerged for more than a few minutes. You've asked a great question. The 22" TrekLight XT produces about 10,000 Lumens, whereas the 22" TrekLight ES produces about 7,500 Lumens.

The other advantages to owning an XT Series TrekLight are that The CREE LED's are rated at 50,000 hours of runtime, the aluminum housing of the XT is a bit more robust, and the lens is polycarbonate, as opposed to hardened glass.

Welcome aboard! It's great to see the site grow and have good active sponsors on the forum!

I'm not sure what the official way of setting up a group buy is. I would imagine it is nothing more than making an announcement that you are organizing a group buy. I would obviously share how many buyers you would need to get "X" amount off and post a date that you need a deposit or a full payment by. I would post it in the general discussion sub forum. It's really not supposed to go there but that forum gets the most traffic on the forum. As you have seen, there is already a group buy going on right now for LED bars in the general discussion forum.

Either way, with or without a group buy I think that within the next couple of months I'll outfit my 4runner with some good lighting. I have turned down a few night wheeling trips lately due to the fact that I don't have any lights on my 4runner. I'll be out of town for the next few months and will definitely rig up my 4runner with some good lights, front and rear and possibly some rock lights.

Do you have any photos of the XT bars from the back or side? I'd just like to get a better look at the heatsinks if possible.

This one's a long shot, but could you get the XT's with 5000K Cree's instead of the 6K's? Im no expert in the "LED lightbar" world but I know that in my projector retrofit world, we usually don't like to use anything above 5000K. Im not sure if they are equivalent, and I assume that most LED bars out there use a 6000K LED but I'm rather curious to get some more info.

Sorry to change the subject here but why would you want a 5000k over a 6000k light?

That is the Kelvin rating of the bulb, or the color temperature. A 6000K bulb is going to be more blue in the light spectrum than a 5000K bulb. The brightest light is achieved around 4200K. Or at least this is what applies for HID's, and I'm guessing the light spectrum isn't going to change between the two applications. I'm betting the principle is the same with LED's but maybe there is a reason most LED's are a higher kelvin @5000 or 6000K (most that I've researched). Running lights that are too high on the kelvin scale will wash out your light output.... Rob (SCRunner) in the 3rd gen section posted an excellent link about the comparison of color temperatures and you can noticeably see the the loss of details when comparing even a 5000K bulb to a 4300K bulb. Not saying these bars will due that, as we all know how ridiculously bright LED bars can be. Just looking to be schooled. haha

It's my understanding that the beam pattern of the LED bar will be manipulated by the optics of the lightbar. A "flood" pattern LED bar will have different optics than a "spot" pattern LED bar. The LED's are probably identical just different optics to produce a different pattern of light output to suite the desired application.

No trouble about the questions, that's what I'm here for.

Yes, the spot bean is 30 degrees and the flood beam is 60 degrees for the XT Series TrekLights.

I'll dig up a photo for you so you can see the heat sink.

The only 5000K CREE's we currently carry are the 10 Watt flavor in our SL series light bars. If you must have 5000 Kelvins, I'd definitely steer you towards the SL line of products.

Not necessarily less bright, but the color of 5000K is slightly more natural (whiter), and allows our eyes to see more.

That's a big factor in HID's when you're working with a set of headlights that will be your only source of illumination, but for LED Bars, these things throw out such a massive amount of light, it's probably not going to be an issue for anyone.

Correct.

The LED's in a Light Bar are all the same. The optics are what changes the beam pattern.

That happens a lot here. It doesn't take much for a good tech thread to pop up.

Out of curiousity, what degree of beam do your lights have? For example, for lights that I will put up front I will want to be able to see nearly 90* out to the left and right. I will also want to see a decent distance out in front of me.

Would I be better off to get some small flood lights on the front side and point them 45* out and put a good spot pattern bar in the middle? Excuse my newb questions but I don't really know anything about light bars.

Actually, in person, the lights look closer to 5000K than they do to 6000K.

In person, there's no blueish tint at all. The night shots of the 7.5" ES TrekLight shown below are an accurate representation of what the lights look like. Keep in mind, this is just ONE 7.5" ES TrekLight. No headlights or high beams:
