Hello everyone. So today i am currently doing a modification I've been wanting to do for a while. I am going to be modifying my headlights. I will be installing 7" LED off road light bars in the headlights!! So now i have found they will be way too bright, so therefore i have ordered and received a PWM 15amp dimmer switch with knob that is able to be mounted away from the main unit. I have tried the dimmer switch out with the lights and it works great!!! So now fellas the fun has begun!!! i have baked the lights at 300 degrees for 15 min and pulled them apart and started prepping. So stay tuned pics will be up very soon :bounce:

So the LEDs with be your only source of light?

Interesting... Do you DD your 4runner?

This is not my DD, but hoping with the dimmer, ill dim them down enough that if i am driving it at night other than offloading, it will be ok. If it is too bright, then i will do another Modification. One way or another, this will work. The light bars will be matching the 24" bar mounted on my bumper, so it should be nice and bright and look nice too. Plus something little different :guitar2:

Subscribed! Looking forward to seeing this unfold. I've seen other guys retrofit square LED pods into headlights but never a 7" LED bar. Are you color matching the housing, painting it black or leaving it chrome?

i will be painting the housing gunmetal and the light bar is already black. And thanks, i can't wait either to see my outcome.

the start..

headlights out ...

preparing for baking...

and done and ready for pulling apart...

cutting ....

cut....

and mocked up before little more prep work and paint. i do also have to cut a plate to mount the lights in. i will be using sheet of plastic/ abs material and after cutting the hole for the light bar to mount in, i will attach it to the light housing. more pics later.

this is the PWM dimmer, dims from 10 percent to 100 percent.

issue if you want to drive on road is being DOT legal. almost all aftermarket off road lights and some aftermarket housings are none DOT legal meaning that you can get hit with a ticket just for turning them on. i have personally got pulled over acouple times just for having off road lights on with highbeams and a cop saw it from a ways away and decided to be a dick. i have heard from friends but unsure if this is correct but running hid bulbs in a none hid housing is also none DOT legal and can be written up for the offense. just warning you about these things before you get too deep and might have to be towed home, happened to buddy of mine in cali for running beadlocks.

what was the issue with the current head lights btw???

no issue really with the current ones. i even tried the projector retrofit, didn't like it, tried just hid headlight conversions, didn't like it. Doing this because its different. gonna make this work one way or another even if i have to snap on a pair of Tinted headlight covers just to keep the glare down.
Im sure its illegal but i drive it about 4 to 5 times out of the month. and when i do, its usually daytime. Cant wait to try this setup out in Glamis sand dunes!!!

update:

man this was a job! still working on it. Mocking all this up to look right is a job. angles and such. got templates done and gotta get some ABS or some kind of plastic to start cutting and fitting them in. Stay Tuned fellas...

:reddance:

already done a projector retrofit. got rid of it. didn't like it.

Its not about liking it or not, its about not being a dick and blinding every one.

Im not saying just get projectors I'm saying use one for a low beam.

Thinking outside the box..something new, i like that approach. Hopefully that dimmer switch works just as you anticipated.

Sorry to get off topic, but what kind of light bar do you have on your roof in your avatar blcktpgsr ? It's sweet.
