Left Lane Drivers Beware!

Presto

How crazy is this... my friend just got an $83 ticket in Missouri on I-29 for driving in the left-hand lane. She was the only person on the road and the cop was a stickler for rules. Left lane is for passing only.

I realize that the left lane is for passing only, but I didn't know you could get an actual ticket for it.

too bad for the ticket.. but I'm glad their enforcing it somewhere. People here go below speed limit in the left lanes... UGH! They should make it so that if you're slow.. move over.

As he said: Good that they're enforcing it. Tell her not to be a left lane hog. Now, I've been on some interstates where the right lanes are bumpy as hell and it's jarring me to death; I'll move over, but once I see the other lane has smoothed out, I'll move back.

yeah left lane hogs suck but if you are moving fast enough (like me) i think you can stick it out.. down south here nobody gives a damn about what lane your in as long as you arent doing 100mph.. you could pass a cop doing 85 to 90 on the interstate and he wouldnt even bother.

It is a law here in VA (and in many other states) that you must move to the right when faster vehicles approach......although it is virtually never enforced (political reasons, primarily).

I drive I-95 almost daily and left-lane bandits are a HUGE problem. Aside from being just plain rude, it is dangerous because people have to pass you on the right-hand side. This in itself is cause for uneven traffic flow, "weaving" in and out more exposure to blind spots.

I drive a commercial truck for a living, and one thing you definitely learn about is blind spots!

Sorry to hear about the ticket, but I honestly wish a lot more people were written up for this egregious, hazardous & inconsiderate act. An exerpt from our vehicle code is shown below.

i agree 110%. It's a law here in NC too. I actually have a sticker on my rear window so i can speed up cut them off then slam on my brakes to make sure they read it. :p

Great sticker!!!!

I remember seeing one on the back window of a car that simply stated "If I passed you on the right, you're in the wrong damn lane."

Short, succinct and straight to the point! But anyway, those who are the problem are not likely to be paying enough attention to read a bumper sticker, particularly if they cannot read & understand a large black and white highway sign. We have "Slower Traffic Keep Right" peppered all over I-95 and nobody obeys it. Heck, that law is flagrantly disregarded more than the ridiculously low speed limit(s) on the Interstates.

thats when you decide whether to be an ass and tailgate them until they get the hell out of the way.

If im not driving fast enough and somebody tailgates me (usually doesnt happen since my avg speed is 85 on interstate) then i speed up and move over.

It's amazing how much more of a problem it is in florida on I-75 and I-95 then up in the midwest at least from my experiances. Not to say that I don't get fast lane hog drivers up in the midwest though.....

sweet so not only a new rear end for my car but but $3,000 after i sue you for emotional damamges!! hooray here come the new wheels and tires !!:p

Let see, someone endanger the lives of everyone on the road and then when they threaten me and I have to protect myself, you think someone is going to take their side. NOT! Even if they do, it would be worth every penny and they will definitely think twice about doing something so STUPID! It

right so maybe you shouldnt tailgate me then, if you have a car full of your kids/nuns/elderly folk then drive responsibly and get off my a** and you wouldnt have that issue.

Im not sure how old you are, but you cant just get out of cars hitting people. It's called road rage and many people take anger management classes for it.

honestly ill give you a break because you probly would get out an hit someone, hell, your from NJ and just about every city in NJ is ranked the top worst drivers in the entire U.S.

Statistics from best to worst drivers :bigok:

If you're slowing other people down, what the hell is so difficult about getting out of the way?!?!?

nothing, i almost 99.9% of the time move over immidiatly and accomidate other drivers who are going faster than me. I can drive kind of speedy most of the time if i know the roads and the other .01% is when i just dont see someone fly up on my ass.

i just meant dont tailgate me because id be more than happy to move out of your way.

I suppose a judge would have to interpret what "obstruct" means, but deliberately slowing down in an effort to harass or intimidate another driver would probably qualify.

This is from the VA State Code (
