Let's Here It For Shocks!

Okay guys I've had my Rough Country lift long enough to know that I really don't like the Rough Country shocks. Way to soft for my tastes, and no way to adjust them.

Prior to the lift I had a set of KYB Monomax and really liked the way they performed. Just felt SOLID, but not harsh.

I'm looking at the Bilstein 5150, but would like to hear what's working great on your 1st and 2nd Gen 4Runners.

Ive had my Rancho RS9000s for a long time and they've served me well. I know there are a lot of better shocks out there. (someone will chime in to say they suck) For the price, they are excellent. And fully adjustable, which is nice when I'm pulling my tent trailer. I heard the 5150s were being discontinued...idk. Is that a picture of a Jeep frontend? Looks just like my LJ.

I'm pretty sure the 5150's were discontinued, replaced by the 5160. Might be able to still find some though.

I run 5125's on my slow-go rig and am happy with them, good shocks for the $.

I just got the skyjacker nitro 8000s and I love em so far, a lot better than my old ranchos

Why not just go back to KYB's if you like them? We've run factory shocks on our 4runner, but it does not have a lift kit. Next go round, I'll install Bilstein's. Their valve design is well done and I've had good experiences with them on other cars.

Shocks that came with your kit were probably just the Hydraulic ones. Just upgrade to the gas charged versions or the newer 2.0 monotubes from rough country. 5150s are discontinued. 5160s are sweet, but they are pretty spendy. I believe there is a 5100 shock available for the front to go with the lift kit you have.

Food for thought.. On my pickup, Ill be running stock f250 shocks. They might not fit with your current setup, but they offer about 13" of travel and are made to handle a much heavier truck, so when put on a Toyota, they do quite well on the rocks. And for about 30-50 piece, they wont break the bank. I cant speak for their road manners though.
