As the title says...

I was adjusting belt tension on my P/S belt tonight and noticed this guy buried in behind the reservoir. To the best of my knowledge the power steering pump has never been replaced, but I've only had this truck for just over a year and have found some *ahem* interesting things underhood.

Does the PS pump have a level sensor? Pressure sensor? It's single wire, red or pink and is loomed in to the cam position sensor harness on the front timing cover.

Now... this poor parts guy hasn't looked in the book yet. I can do that tomorrow... after coffee.

Ah, I know that switch connects to either the PS pump or very close to it, I've had to awkwardly disconnect that from time to time. It connects to a small, single blade connector, much like the engine temp sender switch.

It might be the oil pressure sender switch that goes to the dash light.

I had to replace this after I stripped the connector from the wire during a timing belt change.

I learned that it's a pressure sensor for the power steering system; supposedly it tells the engine to idle higher if making sharp turns at low speed/while idling. I always wondered what is was for before that...

I've never noticed any drivability issues with it disconnected and I have always tried to never turn a rack to full lock so perhaps that's why I don't notice.

Next time I'm underwood with a few minutes to curse at myself I will try to find its home...

The hard part is finding the switch, it's hidden pretty darn good and a pain to take off.

That is the truth! Took me forever to figure out where that connector went when swapping the wiring harness on my motor.

So, I am not sure what I need here. I did see parts with links listed here:
Power Steering Pump- What is the wire for?

However, wouldn’t the “bolt” this sensor attaches to need to be replaced in my case? The connector too (if the connector, the part number is in the link above).

The photos show the original connector attached to the sensor and then the new one.

Did you actual sensor break off? Or just the connector housing? I can’t quite tell from the photo. But I kinda looks like you need the sensor too?

Thanks for your link. Yours is on the opposite side of the gray connector. The wiring up to the gray connector for me is just fine. I broke the gray connector off of the metal “nut / bolt” (whatever that thing is called that screws into the pump).

I could probably JB weld it back, but would rather not. So not sure what I need to buy.

Thanks for your link. Yours is on the opposite side of the gray connector. The wiring up to the gray connector for me is just fine. I broke the gray connector off of the metal “nut / bolt” (whatever that thing is called that screws into the pump).

Ah ok. Isn’t the metal thing that threads onto the pump housing the sensor itself?

OK, so assuming that is the sensor, I could buy the sensor, but then I would need to replace the gray fitting too. Assuming that, can the gray fitting be removed without the entire wire? I really don’t want to replace the wire.

If your connector and connector housing are not broken, then you can just replace the switch.

Otherwise you can cut the wire and solder in the replacements like in my link.

If you don’t want to solder, you could just use a twist connector and electrical tape. The PS Idle-Up switch is not a critical system IMO and you’d be pretty OK without it.

Oh WAIT! I am an idiot. DUH, I just realized there is a release on the connector, so I can remove the broken piece from the connector and then just buy a new sensor! I am slow, I know.
