Let's see those black 5th Gens!

Thumbs down to plasti-dipping the roof rails. The guy I bought mine from said he did it and it faded and peeled terribly so he took it off. My brother picked up a '15 two weeks ago and they plasti-dipped it and it's peeling.. Looks terrible.

Do it right... Remove it, sand it and paint it. I have 18 months on mine after doing that and it all looks perfect.

If you prep the areas to be "dipped", it will hold up. Did my '13 'Runner and badges on my '15 Mustang with no problems. Never peeled after many car washes. The door handles on the 'Runner were subjected to harshest treatment from car washes and the Pony in the Mustang grill was right out there in the battle.

Granted the ultimate would be to sand and paint, but only with high quality automotive paint. Not everyone has that ability and they're gonna probably use "rattle cans" of questionable quality. JMHO!

Oh yeah ... dipping is reversible, unlike sanding and painting.

The family's old Toyota and my new Toyota. I'm loving the change from a full size GMC pickup!!

Old - 95 Landcruiser, 286K and counting, fully locked and stock
New - 19 TRD ORP w/KDSS - Planning to lift, 33/34's, possibly gears

Overall I was quite surprised at the overall dimensions being close to identical to the old FJ80 but having WAY more room in the cab. On a side profile view the windshield sits probably 5" forward, providing much more legroom for the driver.

All in all it feels like the much younger sibling, loving it so far!!

We used to have a triple locked 80, it was a Poverty Pack, I miss it at times. You are correct that they feel very similar in size. I prefer the split gate of the LC and the straight axle up front, but in every other regard I would choose the 4Runner. The 4Runner really is quite comparable to the 80-Series in size, it's wild to think about how much bigger the LC has gotten in the last two generations.

New to me '16 Trail. First time I've driven off road. I learned that going down can be a totally different experience than going up.

Plans are a driver mod, sliders, and some more off-road specific tires.
