Let's Talk About 3rd Gen Stereos - Post em up!

Has anyone had an issue with pioneer or any other name brand double din actually not fitting right? I have my eye on a few,I've tried to install an off brand dd once and it wouldn't fit without trimming of my bezel which I'm not going to do.

I put a Pioneer FHP-800BT in my 4runner right after I got it. Easiest install I've done to date, and its the most factory looking installed unit I've done to date.

Has anyone installed an Android double din yet? One manufacturer pretty popular on Amazon is the Pumpkin, I just did one in an F150 its pretty sweet.

I haven't looked at these lately, but last I looked, I didn't see any with preouts above 2v.

Was gonna put a DD DVD head in but decided against it as the viewing angle is far from ideal. Will stick to a $169 BT Sony model with a front USB port.

Crutchfield has great support and answered a dozen questions I had, like antennae operation, harness config'ing, etc.

Pioneer stuff is very user-friendly. You won't get any problem fitting that in your 4Runner (was easy on my 98 SR5)

I will get pictures but I have a 2000 Limited 4runner and have installed the following Kenwood DNX892. Double Din and fit fine as the Stereo mine came with was a Double Din (CD/Tape/Radio)..

Well here is mine.

HU: pioneer AVH2XXX. Love it.
Door Speaker amplifier: Pioneer GM-D8604 100W X 4 at 4ohms
Door speakers: pioneer aramide TS-XXXX 2 way
Sub amp: Pioneer GM-D9601 800W at 2ohms
subs and box: ported from my other car, MTX ??? and the box volume calculated for the subs

I love ported boxes.

Just ordered a Pioneer double din with motorized screen so I can tilt the screen up for better viewing angle. Will post pics after install.

Motorized screen pretty much fixes the viewing angle problem.

Reconfigured mine.

Running 130 RMS x 6 to all speakers, 1000 RMS x1 to my sub.

The amp I had before was rated 100 per channel and 600 x 1 for the sub. You DEFINITELY get what you pay for on the better quality amps. I didn't expect much difference, but it was a very big improvement.

Still fighting a small ground/static noise. Did the big 3, re-did my ground for amp, went over all RCA's, ect. Ever since I went to 4v pre-outs it's picked up something we can't find. I'm even running filters with no help on the channels experiencing static.

People think all amps sound the same. I melted a POS Sony Xplode 6 channel amp that was around $270 after 1 year. I then purchased a JL Audio 6 channel for around $400, the sound is 10x better & it's still cranking 11 years later. And I play my Metal loud!

Hell yeah. I picked up 2 alpine pdx-v9 amps for 300 bucks off craigslist. First drive out with the system I got pulled over while abusing my ears to whitechapel. Definitely dig some metal myself. I have 90 Sq ft of second skin dampener pro coming for a fun project. Should tighten it up even more.

I took out my double din and replaced it with an Alpine CDE-HD149BT. I also was able to find a din pocket with a door like how the Surf's had from the factory. Now I just need to start upgrading the rest of the system.

My head unit is a Pioneer AVH-270bt. It's the best head unit I've ever owned

Nice you can put recovery equipment in the port.

I just picked up an alpine 535hd for free monies to put in the 4runner and bougbt a 80prs to retire my alpine cda 9853 in the beater car.

I put my 10" Pioneer TS-W259S4 in the passenger side rear storage compartment. I also managed to squeeze the Boss AR1500M 1500w monoblock between the outer and inner sheet metal when the panel was off. It's run off of a cheap Dual 6.2" touchscreen. I used some old Concept 6.5" for the rear door but stock is still in the front for now. I need to get some new Kicker 6.5" for the front and add a second 1200w 4 channel amp under the driver seat. This is the only shot I have of the sub. I'll try and get some better ones up this weekend. Oh and I still need to carpet the sub enclosure. lol

"Thick blue wire" 9wire( 9 individual wires in one wire. Simply run one end to the headunit and wire 8 wires into the OEM speaker wires, Left, Right, positive , negative you get the idea. eliminates the need to run new individual wires to the speakers and to the amp. And the 9th wire is your wire to send power to the AMP, this 9wire is one wire for everything ) the other end goes to the amp.
