License Plate Bolt Specs?

Pround new owner of a 2002 Sport Edition here, bought it in January and have loved every minute of owning it thus far.

The dealer didn't have the correct bolts for the licesnse plate. Now that I have my permanent plate I need to pick up the correct ones, anyone have an idea as to what size / thread the bolts are? I'd just assume ask as opposed to trying to play the guessing game.

I don't know the specs, but if you have a junkyard nearby, I know of some bolts that will work and look great. The driver's airbag torex bolts are a perfect fit, wont rust, look great, and are slightly more theft-deterrent.

Yeah I can't help you with the size either. But make sure you torque them to at least 80 in/lbs. Don't want those new plates falling off.

I'll bet one twinkie that they are M8x1.25, about 15mm length.

Just be thankful yours will be new and not rusted in place like mine that broke off inside the door so now I can't remove it :/
Anti-seize the new screws you do put in.

6mm x 1.0,I suggest stainless steel hardware with a bit of antiseize

Thanks for the info everyone, the airbag torx bolts actually sounds like a pretty cool idea! I'll definitely be doing the anti-seize, as well as lining the edges of the rear plate with neoprene gasketing.

Confirmed, just replaced mine last summer with some stainless ones with allen key head from Lowes.

My 1999 LTD had these M6 x 1.0 in the back, not the M8 1.25

Threw some #14 x 3/4 or 1" sheet metal screws into the plastic up front, also fit great.

You could try a slightly bigger diameter self-tapping screw or fill the holes with a little epoxy and reuse the same size self tapping screws. <b>OR</b> instead of epoxying, use green Loctite. Much easier to remove if you need to in the future.
