Lift gate supports - where to buy?

Now, for the replacement, is it pretty simple?

Easy. Easier with a friend to hold the gate all the way up while you affix the new support (one side at a time). The supports are just held in with a circlip that you can pop out with a flat screwdriver. Then, tap the posts out of the top and bottom mounts, and the support is free. Install the new one same as the old. The posts only go in one way (they have a square carriage on them to prevent them from turning), so be sure you have them oriented correctly before tapping them in.

Tip: I had to have the door ALL the way open to insert the new ones...that is, push the door up as far as you can with a good amount of force.

I 100% agree with the friend part, it was kind of a pita to hold it open and finagle everything

I saw the circlip which I was guessing that I would have to remove, then just tap out. Sweeeeet, sounds easy enough. Thanks again.

Yup. There are 4 circlips total. Top and bottom of each support. Have fun!

Those circlips won't break easily right? Because they look pretty thin, but as long as I am careful and use a flat screwdriver...I should be good.

tailgate lift cyclinders

anyone know where I can order a pair of tailgate lift cyclinders for my '02 4runner?
I tried Jcwhitney and they don't have them and toyotaoemparts.com has them but they're $134 a piece.
Any suggestions?

I just got a pair of the Strongarms from Amazon, but they didn't come with new rubber grommets. The original ones are crumbling apart. You guys that already replaced yours, did you find new grommets somewhere or were you able to use the old ones again?
