Lift new 4runner w/KDSS ?

I remember reading that about the lc200, I'm curious if that stat includes the 3rd row seat or not.. Those suckers take up a lot of space.

I'm pretty sure that has the 3rd row included as being in the vehicle. I can't see how that number makes sense otherwise. Granted the middle row doesn't fold very low.

I didn't bother to read all the replies, but in case no one has said it, I will. Lifting a KDSS equipped vehicle is not possible, running 285/70's will not work, body lifts are for Heeps, what you really want is a Subaru.

But seriously, 3 inch lift can be done. I did it without spacers or any recalibration of the KDSS. Obviously, paying particular attention to the wires for ABS and disconnecting them and not stretching / damaging is the larger concern. Putting the sway bar (front) back on after the lift is a PITA, but it can be done solo. The truck will handle amazingly for a lifted vehicle with the KDSS. Body lift if not necessary for 285/70's. I am running 285/75's (34") and had to do the BMC, which would be the bigger concern and pounding the pinch seam flat. The lift and KDSS will impact the travel on the rear suspension. I have found that it DOES (despite what other may say) impact up and down travel. I have disconnect my KDSS and can say from first hand experience that this TRULY is the case. IF your not hard core wheeling, it will be a great set-up.

FWIW: Xterra has 36 cu/ft and 66 cu/ft of cargo space with seats up or down respectively. 4Runner has 47 and 90. The 4runner has about 50% more cargo space.

Fun additional fact: 4runner has 90 cu/ft and the LC200 in USA trim only has 82 and the GX460 has 65.

Nice, I love numbers (they are unbiased)...and the 2012 Outback I switched the Xterra for was 35 cu ft and 70 cu ft with the seats down FWIW

I also plan to hit up a lot of dirt roads and find places to explore (like this area near Reno 4x4TrailMaps - Lagomarsino Canyon ). :)

How in the hell you wound up with Lagomarsino Canyon of all places is beyond me. Back in the day, that road connected to I-80. It's definitely a 2 wheel drive road, with many 4x4 trails shooting off of it. The problem is that a lot of the cool roads are closed because of current mining operations.

I've got some friends who live in Reno so I was looking for easy trails to go on and saw that one has some petroglyphs to view near the end. Thought it would be neat to go explore it next time I'm up that way :)

I agree with the advice here to wait on the lift for now. I got my Trail with KDSS back in March (its awesome!). I put BFG KO2 tires on it and some RCI sliders.

I know I'm not going to go over any large rock gardens with the stock suspension, but aside from that I have not felt limited. There has been one hill I've tried and could not get up--steep, loose rocks and a few strategically placed boulders. I gave up on it because I didn't have another rig with me and there was a spot I could have gotten stuck. With another rig, I probably would have been comfortable enough to try it and it probably would have worked. Instead we hiked the additional 100 yards to the top like the old days.

I'll know for sure in another few months, but I don't think a lift is in the future. Maybe I'll lift the front just a bit to level it out. The money I would have put into lift I put into great tires, sliders, and recovery gear.

Or you could do what the rest of us are doing and just wait to see what MTN4RNR is going to do first. :hatsoff:

Stock height is fine for almost everyone.

There is and always will be the 1%, when you get there, then worry about it :D

Yup, as others have said, stock can get you pretty far. Here's mine, completely stock with only sliders.

Lifting it does not force you to remove it still helps with articulation when at lower speed going up hills (the pistons allow the fluid to go through with no restriction) and cornering in higher speed
You remove if going long travel though, it’s just an extra thing to deal with when putting on suspension really.
kdss compatibility is mainly Due to mounting hardware since the lines get in the way and you are limited to 3 inches or else it will cause issues with the piston(which i think lower center of gravity with largest tires is more important, so I just cut my fenders haba) also I recommend links and adjustable Torsen bar
(Will reset your rear axle to stock geometry, recenter it, allowing it to swing better when going over obstacles
I have kdss and been wheeling with it for three years
Only issue is a bushing went out on the sway bar

Hi!! I read this thread and help me a little bit to figure out my problem but i cannot make my mind. I dont know suspension and lift kit very well. (If u want full explanations, go read my thread and answer me if possible and if you can help me.)

So a shop install a X-Reas leveling kit on my KDSS 4runner and I wanted to know if its ok to run with it? Did it damage something on kdss or my suspension? What are the consequences of running with this kit?

The shop installed it without any problem (at least, thats what they told me) and the 4R seems to run normally... but it is ok to run with it? Thank you!!
