Lift on the way

Ok everybody. I have my lift on the way, different parts from here and there. After reading the lift sticky over and over I decided that the trd front struts and land cruiser springs were my best option. So I have two struts from an 01 trd off road truck coming with the stock bilsteins. Then two of the 8 wrap LC springs.

My question is what else will I need? I have read everything i can and it seems some people just use this stuff and new back shocks and call it good. Is that all there is to it? If I don't go bilstein 5100's right away am I going to have a large amount of rack?

With just the stock struts in front, you'll have a ton of rack. You can order a set of 3/8" top plate spacers to help even it out. That is what Fightman did, look his up. I have the TRD stock struts, and that netted me just under 2". With the 8 wraps, you'll get at least 3, if not more. Toytec sells them, and from what I recall, they're not too expensive...

might be a stupid question but where is everyone finding the LC coils? fleabay or just classifieds on this or other forums? i think i'll go that route also.
 
Thanks for the info guys... I'll look for those spacers.

As goes lc coils I'm a member of ih8mud.com and they are always parting out 80's. I had my choice from 4 sets so if you want some go over there and look in the classifieds.
 
Ok guys.. I got my 8.25 wrap lc coils in and wanted to make sure I have everything before I slap these in.

With 3 inches of lift I read I did not need the extended brake line... is that right? Also do I need to purchase a new pan hard bar or will mine be fine for 3 inches? Thanks

Also TRD coils and shocks should be here Friday... woot!

Those 8 wraps will lift more than 3". My 7 wraps gave me 3.5 and if you leave the rear cone bumpstop you can get 1/2" more lift. So your 8 wraps will give 4-4.5" lift if they are not sagged too bad. So yes you will NEED the extended brake line, extended swap bar brackets, maybe some lowered bump stops so you dont over compress your shocks. You might also need an e brake bracket or just loosen it.
 
With the LC coils I'd recommend the panhard drop bracket. You dont NEED it, but you'll get benefits from it. You'll see what I mean when you disconnect the panhard bar to get those coils in the rear, and when you try to put it back its not anywhere close of fitting.

Sorry to thread jack but I am also about to put my lift in and I am wondering if I should get the adjustable panhard bar? Baja Runner I will be running those FZJ80 coils you sold me in the rear.
 
Ok guys. I got it. I can't seem to find the pan hard drop down bracket though... Any sources for that?

Also does anyone know what length of brake cable I need to buy?

Also once I put in my trd fronts will I need a diff drop bracket? Not sure on that one..

Ok guys... pan hard extension on the way.

A few more questions:

Can i use land cruiser fj80 shocks for the rear once I lift it?

Do I need to have the diff drop on the front, have seen this go both ways?

What can you all tell me about sway bar removal over not?

i'm doing my lift very soon and ramping up my parts.

Do you still need the panhard bar if you go simply with a 3" lift?

I believe it's the rear shocks from an 80 series that you can use to add to your rear setup. Rockdawg did so... so try sending him a PM.

I just used some Skyjacker 2.5" lift shocks... but will eventually get the LC shocks when these crap out.

As far as the front DIff Drop, I did it, and got it from Toytec as well. It's something like $29.99 ??? Not expensive.

I'm running 8 wraps, and never extended any brake lines or E-brake cables... but some guys recommend it....
 
Well I got the rear lift done and it only took about an hour to do the coils but once I hit the shocks things went from good to bad. Lameness but after hours of cutting and hammering and finally just plasma cutting the damn things out I got it done.

I also went ahead and built my own pan hard extension, which from the math I did was probably a good idea because the one from toy tech wouldn't have been enough for the lift the 8.25 wraps... thing went up 6 inches... more than I wanted but I'm kinda into it.

Looks good! I just got mine done last night. Fixing the issues now.. CV boots, rub spots, rear diff vent, blah blah.

What did you mean by the above comment though? I assume you bought used TRD coils? But what are you taking apart? You'll need a spring compressor or shop for sure. I suggest paying somebody. No point in losing fingers over 50-100 bucks. Let somebody else lose a digit.
 
Yeah I got the trd struts used and used a compressor from a box store and man I can't get them apart. I think I'll swing them by les Schwab on Monday. Sounds safer and the whole time I was doing the compression I was sketched out for sure. Thanks for the props, hopefully I'll have it done this week.

Yea, let them do it. It's not worth it. (i've had a motorcycle shock let go and it's scary!). I refuse to compress spring with high spring rate after that.
