Lift question (Getting more confused)

Alright guys im new here so dont kill me to quick for this. I did search, and read the sticky on lifts, ect. The question I have is I dont off-road, the closest I get to it is driving across the farm which is basically gravel roads, but do the lift kits talked about on the sticky also work on 2wd models? If not are there any made?

Alright now to the second part of this question I could not find the answere to. Im looking at prob the 3 inch suspension lift with a 2 inch body lift to fit 35's if possible. First off will they fit in this situation? And second the one I cant find the answere to, will I need to re-gear the truck, or since im mainly highway will stock be fine? And for mainly normal driving is it even sensible to spend all that extra money on the coilovers or would the 3 inch springs and spacers work just fine?

The suspension and body lift will work with both 2WD and 4WD models. As for the gearing.....I'd say with 33's ...not really necessary....but with the 35's I'd probably do it. You're going to lose quite a bit of power if you don't.

As for your lift choices, I'd stay away from a spacer lift. I bought my spacer lift after seeing another 4Runner on Car Domain that was running it. I sent the owner a personal message, in order to get some feedback from him....and he never responded. At the time, I knew nothing of this site, and didn't know anybody else who had modded their 4Runner, so had to search on line for a supplier who sold the lift.

In the end, I was very disappointed with the Toytec Spacer lift. My recommendation, read the Lift thread sticky, and really pay attention to the sections which speak of Tundra TRD Struts (front setup), and the Land Cruiser (LC) coils. The front coils from a 90's era Land Cruiser can be used to lift the rear of our trucks. You can couple the LC coils with Stock LC shocks, or go with Bilsteins, or do like I did and buy some cheapo SkyJAcker 2.5" lift shocks. I would also look into getting (and only getting) the Toytec TOP PLATE SPACER and EXTENDED STUDS for your strut assembly. (you need to disassemble your stock struts, steal the 4Runner top plate, and disassemble the Tundra struts, and replace the Tundra Top plate with your 4Runner Top plate, making sure to use the extended studs and top plate spacer and make sure to re-use the Tundra rubber isolator when re-assembling)

Most of these parts, can be found in Junk yards, (Tundra strut assemblies and LC coils) the stock LC rear shocks can be found at your local Dealership, not sure on sources for Bilstein, I got my Skyjacker shocks from NAPA. The Toytec Top plate spacer....I'd get from Toytec Lifts themselves. Send a message to Steezemcqueen (I think that's his user name), he could probably help you with getting the Toytec parts.

I think that's about it....I've got that setup, + the front Diff drop kit....and I'm happy with it. Not to mention....the lift only cost me less than $500.00 to do!

There's also a thread on here about the Lc coils themselves- color codes/amount of lift etc. As fightman said, 35's your gonna want to re-gear it. Your also going to need a drop bracket for your panhard bar or an adjustable bar. You can get the spacers, dif drop and bracket all from toytec. As for shocks- Any place that sells shocks sells bilsteins- 5100s are what your gonna want for the front, For the rear you can run the 5150s or if your going with the lc springs, stock lc shocks are descent also. The Lc oem shocks are just as easy to find as anything else.

Ive been looking at your truck and really like it, but want a little bigger tire on it. Reading all the info on yours, along with all the info on here, im just getting more confused. Reading here and then reading the company thats selling the lifts all there info, im getting different input on how much it will actually lift. With your tire size its right under a 33 inch wheel if I looked it up right. So with all this being said, what would you recommend in order to get 35's under it and have them clear? and what offset and width wheel will push it out not to have to have the spacers? Like I said im very confused. Im coming from building cars sitting 2-3 inches off the ground and motorcycles, so going up in the air is a new experience for me.

I can't really tell too much about clearing the 35's....as I never wanted to run that big a tire on mine. The wheels I have are Procomp's and have approx. 4.5" backspacing. I'm not running any spacers.....but still had some rubbing on my front fender and lower plastic bumper valance. My wheels stuff pretty good, and currently are not an issue. However, with the Old Man Emu 890 coils, the tires would rub pretty hard on the rear bumper.....again..it's no longer an issue with my LC coils.

One guy you could probably ask regarding the 35's is Brian2sun. He's currently running 35's, but he had do so some trimming to his rig to clear that rubber.

I wish I could be more help with the 35's.....but I've never gone that route...so don't have much info on that setup.

Alright looking at the toytec page and seeing the 3 inch lift springs for one price, then the bilstein shock would work fine if I dont want to do coilovers for the front. Next question is seeing the 2 inch spacers they have on there site, there saying that those will work with any spring on that page except the oem. Does this here mean I can do the 3 inch springs and the spacers to get 5 in the front, and then do the I think fj springs for the rear to pull off the same height?

Ok go ahead and call me stupid for the above question, figured it out last night. So here we go. Prob just going to go with the OME 3 inch lift with the struts and all, then put the 2 inch body on top of that. The front bumper I was told I could redrill the holes to lift it up, then the diff drop I dont need being 2wd. Is there anything else I will need to get to make this work?

No reason, just bored. I get bored very quick with vehicles unless im doing something to them, so I might as well play with this one to.

Well lets hope 10mpg and no usable horsepower cheers you up.

You will wish you had stuck with 3" and 33" tires as soon as you hit the skinny pedal. But its your truck, just trying to give you some useful advice.

im prob not going to go to 35's just an idea. But reading on here some people with the 3 inch lift and 33's are rubbing and have to trim. I just want to clear prob some 33x12.50s without rubbing or trimming. And not having any trucks like this to see in person and get to see how high and what they look like in person doesnt help. Just looking a pictures of them really doesnt give the correct feel of how high they are if you understand what im saying.

I'm 2wheel drive with that much lift up front.. I can easily keep up with the guys with 4wheel. So don't let that stop you. I would not do 35's though.. I want to re-gear mine just because I hate the power loss from 33's, you'll hate 35's. Run the tundra/lc setup, add a body lift to that and you'll have no issues with rubbing on 33's.
