lift spring choices/ tire choices

well my edelbrock shocks are on the way and i am still looking for springs.
option 1: i have fj springs sitting around
option 2:ome 885 front toytec rear springs
option 3:eibach springs toytec rear (so basicly all toytec)
option 4:? something i dont know about yet

im leaning in the direction of option 2 any input would be awesome

also trying to decide between 265/70/17 or 255/75/17 been eyeballing the hankook dynapros in either size. and looking at the 265/70/17 general grabber a/t.
ive researched the **** out of the different tire sizes, i do use this as my patrol vehicle so i do need it to handle well. just looking for more input

i have the goodyear duratracs on my fj almost identical to the kelly safari i love them. im looking to only go with an all terrain at most.
 
Do you know what the shocks are rated for? Are they heavy duty or a direct replacement for stock? That could dictate which springs you need to go with. The OME's might be a little too much for a standard duty shock so the FJ coils would be better in that case. I've been pretty happy with my FJ's, but my travel is limited by the "stretched" stock shocks.

I've been reading some bad news on the Dynapros... very positive at first, but they seem to degrade rapidly with mileage. Check out a couple posts from ARK_SWAMP_RIDER... I think he posted up the bad news.

I went to Discount (November 2010) to get a set of the Dynapros and they were back ordered for about three months so, after some additional research, I chose the GY Silent Armors and have been very happy with them.
 
I would try to find the coil rate of the Eibach front coils. IMO the perfect setup (at stock weight) lies between the FJ coils and OME's. I love the OME's, but they're definitely stiff. Over some bumps, it's a little more harsh than with the FJ coils.

Do you off road, or is this pretty much on road only? If very little off road, option 1. If more off road use, options 2 or 3 (I'd personally choose 3 pending the answer from the above regarding coil rate).

I've loved the 255/75/17 size, it's been great. Really prefer it over the 265/70/17. However, I am having issues, and I'm not sure if it's the tires or the size (maybe both). For the first 20k, I loved the Hankook DynaPro ATM's. In the last 10k miles (currently have 30k + miles on them), they've really started to disappoint me. They've gotten substantially louder, almost as loud as Toyo MT's (don't have much else to compare to). Performance in the rain has greatly suffered. Braking on the road feels like I'm on ice. Unless I'm very conservative with the brake pedal, tires loose traction and I start sliding. This isn't hydroplaning, it's strictly a loss of traction on wet pavement. Tire wear has been good, I'd say I'm at or above 50% even after 30k miles. The issues are bad enough I'm replacing them long before they're worn out. I think there are too many other options out there, I would have difficulty recommending these. I read a ton of great reviews on these prior to purchasing them. Some may be due to the narrow size, but I had absolutely no issues for the first 20k miles, so I don't think that's the case.

+1 on option 2 . I have Firestone Destination AT's in an LT255/75/17 and am very happy so far. They are quiet, smooth, and are great in the snow. I haven't had them long though so I can't speak to durability.

I found the info on the coil rates. Stock is 580 lb/inch. OME 884 and 885 are 590 lb/inch. The Eibach coils Toytec sells are 620 lb/inch. Therefore, the TT front coils will be MUCH stiffer than the OME's. Based on this info, I'd choose FJ coils for mostly on road driving, or the OME/TT Superflex setup for more of a mix of on/off road driving.

Well that stinks I had herd good things about the dynapros maybe rethink it

I plan to offroad this thing even though I have my fj, in it's current state it could even go over a curb lol.
 
So ark the edelbrock shocks only have stock and 2inch setting, and from what I read the fj only do .5-1inch of lift. So I should be around 2.5-3 inch of lift

I also want to get rid of the break dive do the ome get rid of it?

That estimate of 2.5-3" of lift is just about right with a 2" shock setting plus the FJ coils. My 2010 FJ coils netted me 1" of front lift (I also added a 1" top spacer to get to a total of 2" lift) and about 0.75" of lift out back. I'll also mention that the FJ coils really changed the feel of my Runner... for the better! Noticeably firmer, but not harsh at all and it really reduced the spongy brake dive... pretty decent "bang for the buck", as they say.

By the way, getting the full 3" up front will make you a little nose-high. Mine sits almost perfectly flat with the increases mentioned above. But with the longer shocks, you could easily add a rear spacer to better match that full 3" up front. Assuming that you have a V6.

I'm loving my FJ coils with the 5100 Bilstein (2.5 setting). I netted more lift than most from what I have seen, But I don't have much weight with a V6.
Drives tight not to hard not to soft:wow2:
I have the 255/75/17 BFG Mud T/A and they are okay not to great in Ice/light snow conditions, Good in dry & rain, and of course Off Road. But noisy!

That lift amount sounds about right. Fj coils will take some nose dive out, ome will take even more. Same goes for body rill in the corners.
