Lift suggestions on 2016 XP

I like it. Its no different then you buying a sr5 and adding in black logos... rims.... tires of your own choice and paying for it. I just happened to like what SET did for me :) plus I got my runner sr5 prm with that package for 35k I made out pretty dam good with those options on it

My guess is SET had seen and liked some of the appearance mods people in other parts of the country had done (T4R.org), realized there was a "bling" demographic in the southern states and figured out a way to move 2wd vehicles in an area that doesn't look at 4x4 first (no snow or mountains).
 
So we are all 4runner lovers right? I had my first one in 2008 they have had these models around since at least 2004. Back then the XP models came with hood scopes and 20s with low profile tires and dual exhaust. The new ones like I have now are much nicer. Again they charge 4K for this. How much are new tire and rims? It goes either way. Yes it's 2wd but you know what? I like it. :) we don't have mountains or snow or anything where I even need a 4x4. Think about the mods it comes with from the link above. What would that cost someone to add that all?

I drive my 4WD in 2WD 99.9% of the time. If I HAD to replace my 4R, and my only choice was 2WD or Brand X, it'd still be a 4R.
 
I didn't know the XP had that long of a history. Have been a T4R fan for years and don't remember seeing them in central Fl. I know when I saw a 5th gen XP at the dealer by my house back in 2015, I stopped and checked it out immediately. They look good imho and the package isn't priced all that bad when you consider most mods like that aren't done by folks at home, so you have to factor in labor as well.

I got my 1inch rear cornfed spacers yesterday. The bilstein shocks should be here Tuesday. I am going to do a 1.75 in the front with 1 inch in the rear to keep a slight rake. Also since my tires don't have a huge amount of tread as far as height being only 55's I don't want such a huge wheel gap.

Yeah, are you putting wheel spacers on your XP though? I'm putting on the 1.25" Spidertrax...so I'm just trying to understand if the 2" cornfeds on my fronts will keep the XP wheel/tire combo from rubbing on the mudguard and fender like they did when I put them on w/o the 2" kit.

Ah I see. No I am not doing the wheel spacers yet. I wouldn't be able to answer you on the rubbing part

Yeah, that's why I'm really here in this thread, just to make sure. Jason at Burtman told me that the 2/1 kit would be enough to clear the rubbing but I don't actually know how to do the "calculation". There's a thread on tires and spacers, but my mind isn't "technical" enough to figure it out, plus I don't think anyone mentions the XP wheel/tire package on there...so it's pretty tough to figure it out unless you "know" someone in the industry that knows it.

I live in Miami. I've never even seen snow. I try to use my 4x4 maybe 10 weekends a year, but even if I didn't I would still not own a 2WD body on frame 17mpg SUV with big knobby tires and then lift it to boot. It just doesn't make sense for me.

I don't think you need to justify your purchase to anyone. You like it - that's all that matters. Deep down it's still a T4R. Say $1k for tires, $800 for rims and the hood scoop is...? Not sure? $100 for the emblem blackout kit. It kind of balances out if you like the uniqueness of it.

Not sure it's worth the $4k premium for me. How much is a 4x4 over a standard 2WD model? I'm not knocking - genuinely I don't know.

I originally had the XP package Tire/Wheel combo but I changed that up a while back (found somebody willing to pay me enough for it to make it worth it). I lifted mine with Bilsteins and OME coils about 2.5" and had rubbing. I even added 1.5" hubcentric spacers, you guessed it, more rubbing. Got my alignment done and picked up a new blade for my utility knife. I spent about 10-20 minutes trimming my front fender and the rubbing was gone.

IF you have rubbing it is very easy to fix. For the mudguards use a heat gun on them and roll it with a bottle to get the room you need. If you search there are more in depth write ups on these

I think you would be surprised by how many people own 2wd drive models vs 4x4 and honestly how can you tell the difference if I have one or not?

if you never offroad you don't have a need for 4wd, but if you never offroad a Highlander or other crossover (or just a sedan) seems like a a much better vehicle instead of a BOF vehicle with poor gas mileage

Nope I don't like the way they drive. I prefer the truck feeling. I had a 2008 runner I got rid of it for a 2015 JGC and I just got rid of that because it didn't drive anything like a 4runner. Now I have a 2016 model and love it. Hey maybe my next one will be a 4x4 since I do plan to move out of Florida sometime!

Phil, I soon after realized my post about the XP run down option list could just be localized and took a closer look on Toyota.com, to found out about the 'limited' Dealer Package offerings nationally!
So yeah Man! Still raised my eyebrow of why that's not being offered outside of SET markets. Don't know, don't care anymore.


Secondly Bud! Change is sometimes good, Learn how to use BBCode and you too can change the font/color/size of Font to name a few options to break up the boring flat and over used size 8 font defaulted here. No offence. I was "playing around" with my options as a first timer with postings to the Forums. I might get fully bored of being abnormal and just start posting without BBC to look plain and unappealing to read.
BUT for now, It's kind of like:

you Florida guys are making me jealous!

I can't get out of my driveway without 4x4, and it'll be that way for another 3 months.
I also put on a lot of highway miles in 4x4 this time of year, as I live in the whillywhacks.

but that's what lead me to the 4runner-- my search for 'very reliable 4x4'
