Light offroading in Moab?

Will be in Moab next week for a day. Staying one night in Moab. Want to do some driving around and see whatever there is to see, like the arches and stuff. I did some googling and saw there are guided 4x4 tours.

Can I drive the same trails as the guided tours?

How heavy would the 4x trail be? I'm hoping for nothing crazy as I have a pretty stock setup, but with some nice AT tires.

And thoughts on where I should drive or what to see in a day?

If your

at stock ride height you might consider removing the running boards so you dont damage um :beer:

You could check out trails like Gemini Bridges or the Willow Springs road to Eye of the Whale Arch in Arches National Park. Traildamage.com is well worth the $12 per year and lists most of the trails and gives a difficulty rating- stick with 3-4 rated trails with a stock 4Runner and you'll have plenty of fun.

You can also stop by the visitor center in Moab to get a free trail guide.

Cruise Moab - Trail rating system

This is a decent and free trail rating site. Don't be fooled by Elephant Hill being a 4- I drove it earlier this year and banged up skid plates and sliders, and that is with a 3" lift and 33s! The tricky thing is that the trails can change after a big storm.

But Chicken Corners, Hurrah Pass (don't go down Lockhart Basin), Gemini Bridges should all be fine in a stock 4Runner. Have fun!

Over MOAB, I would drive the 10 mins to Arches, or even the extra 20 to Canyonlands...great views and a simple road.
