Likelihood of odometer rollback?

Been lurking here for awhile while shopping for my next vehicle which I'm determined to be a 4Runner.

Finally found one I really liked and went to drive it today...

1999 SR5 4x4

His advertised mileage was 131k and the odometer read in the 132k's when I drove it today... No big deal.

Love the truck, color, options, the shape its in, and the price. Need's new bushings and a few things here and there to work on but that I don't mind.

I ran the carfax tonight and it came back with the last reported odometer reading as 141k when it was sold at auction last October.

What gives? Did they fat-finger-it when punching in the odometer reading then or do I assume the worst and run?

Pretty torn right now, thanks for any advice.

Auctioneers will do anything to make money. They could have swapped the gauge cluster with that of a lower mileage 4Runner.

I'd be weary

What a pain in the butt. Just ran it with AutoCheck to confirm.

I was dead set on buying this car tomorrow too. Guess I'll have to call him and cancel. This sucks! Another month or more of searching. -.-

I figured I should probably not buy this car but needed to hear it from someone else. Thanks guys. :thumb3:
