Limited climate control on a Trail Premium?

Why isn't everyone else riding a bicycle with a lantern in one hand? Having a vehicle period is a comfort item - a convenience. Seriously giving anyone crap for wanting a feature or two of convenience is pretty hypocritical.
And again, for all those who love taking things out of context, yes I blame Toyota for not adding basic features like auto headlights and auto temp control on anything labeled "premium".
Honestly I should blame Jeep, their transmission issues made me buy this 4runner.
Either way, I'm hacking it up and will end up with both features, just going to take some work and some money... Challenge accepted.

I had auto climate on my 2003 SR5 and loved it. I hate messing with the temperature control and couldn't believe they took that, as well as several other things away and put them on the Limited.
So I bought a Limited. Well, that and I thought the real leather handled the Texas heat better as well as a bunch of other things. Honestly I never touch my climate controls and my wife, who is always cold, has her side set and we are happy.

My point is a 4Runner is a 4Runner. Not a Highlander, not a Land Cruiser, not a race car. Many vehicles out there have the features you want. Even the 4Runner Limited has the features you want.
I ride bikes. I don't want a motor. If i did I would buy a motorcycle instead of mounting a motor on my bicycle. Same thing applies here.
Now, if you want something that is not available then make it. Don't rant and try to "wish" it to happen.

A limited doesn't come with the off road options as the TRD though - otherwise I would've. What's the point in a premium? Moon roof and leather? Lots of non premium vehicles have that.
Lots of people ranting now and then anyway. I've already bought some parts and pulled some wiring diagrams, nothing about that is just a "wish". 3 day old vehicle and I'm pulling apart the dash - gosh, you're right.. why would anyone not be super pleased about that?
3 Toyota dealers say neither auto headlights or temp control are possible to add... Hmmm... Think maybe they're missing some up sell opportunities by being lazy.
I'll let you all know how things turn out in case you want to tackle it too.

Going back to the first post, or any post by the OP and it doesn't appear to be any rants or wish's for something that wasn't available, it was just a question about if it were possible. Thankfully someone who didn't feel emotionally challenged by the question provided the answers and links in the first reply to which the OP replied with a thank you. All the pages after that, oh man is that some funny S$%T!!!!! Talk about rants, geeez, the forum commando's are pretty active around here :rofl:
Like everyone on this board, I am not new to the internet or special interest forums, although I am fairly new to this one. I have to say, this one takes the cake for people who have no interest in a person's thread going into it to provide a contrary point of view, often in some pretty comical ways. It is very entertaining, I will give you that, but isn't the point of a special interest forum to ask these questions?:noidea:
We're talking about a $40k vehicle that has AC, fuel injection, satellite radio, bluetooth, heated seats, power windows, cruise control, etc, but it is objectionable and ridiculous to ask about dual CC over single CC? Really:lol:

The dual zone CC would have been kind of cool, had it in other cars and it is definitely built with keeping the peace between spouse's in mind, but no biggie that it doesn't have it.

I have after market auto headlight electronics sitting on my workbench waiting for installation in a '15 TEP. I'll do a writeup when I get around to installing. It won't be for a few weeks at least though.
I personally don't have any real desire for dual zone climate control. Heated seats are far better at matching individual preferences than the HVAC system. And I can say without question that the heated seats in the 4runner are WAY better than those in our RX. As between the two I wouldn't trade those functions. I would like a thermostat though. Just a basic one that I can set a temp and forget it. That's not a big issue for me. It would be nice enough, but not a must have by any means.
Oh - and half doors. Since I'm *****ing about something I can't have - I want half doors as an option too!

Hmmm... weird how this all breaks down differently among people. For me, yes, I’ll be honest, I miss the CC from my Limited. Not for the dual zone, just the Auto setting; it worked well for me. Auto Headlights? Don’t care... actually hate them. Wife gets completely pi$$ed off at me when I turn hers off in her Infinity.

My primary beef with not having them is that these are $5 or less items. It's not like we're asking for auto pilot here. The software is written - and has been since 1990. My 1992 GMC truck had the absolute base model package - a stripped down truck from a federal brand inspector - it didn't even come with carpet! And it had auto headlights. The hardware is sorted. The dash even has the location for the sensor molded in. I understand that saving $5 per vehicle adds up. But some of the missing "stuff" are really basic functionality that we expect in every modern vehicle. If it's standard in Toyota's cheapest car - the Yaris - it should be standard in a $40k vehicle.

To be fair in the price comparison, the '04 WJ "Special Edition" we bought new stickered for just over $35k in 2004. Our '14 Trail Premium was $40k.
For $5k we lost the solid front axle, but gained body on frame. We lost the full time 4WD, but gained the A-Trac and crawl control features. We have softex "leather" (heated) instead of cloth seats. We gained a heater for the windshield washer fluid, the tailgate window rolls down, and we gained 75 or so HP. In our case, we also added a tow package with the 4R.
On edit: just remembered, we also have hands-free phone connectibility and navigation with the 4R and Steering wheel mounted audio controls. All windows - one push down AND up control. And how could I forget the ultra cool factor added by the hood scoop?
As much as we loved our WJ, the 4R has been a great replacement. I have 0 regrets in purchasing the T4RP.
That said... I'd like to have the cooled seats option from the Limited. That softex can lead to swamp-ass in the summer.

Most of our replies were in response to post #42, which instead of adding anything useful to the thread complained about a feature not coming on the truck they just bought. Not our fault or Toyotas they didn't read the features list. Most of the guys replying have been and are immensely helpful when people come with real questions or technical challenges. Fairly rare these days as the platform has aged and most of the mods or issues have been covered but its always nice to see folks coming up with new stuff.

Bring an extra flannel (to hand to the wife) and make sure the wife is dressed for the Artic, I wear a T-Shirt and the occasional windows down to vent the Boston Terrier's bad gas and cool the inside down again.

Bumping this - anyone had any luck in getting this working? I don't think the discussion is about dual vs non dual climate control. I think setting a temp like ANY new car and not having to turn the AC off on off on off on off and on over and over again on a trip is quite nice to have and it keeps your eyes on the road... having a 12 position "temperature" knob is silly....
Even in my 2018 it's still the same. I guess Toyota didn't get the memo.
Did someone say it's possible to special order these things from the factory with specific features? Air conditioned seats and climate control on my TRD Off Road Premium please!
Otherwise I might as well just buy a new Tahoe LTZ...
Yea. I was looking at new and late model 4runners and tacomas and was shocked i didn't see thermostatic climate control, since it is on my 2005 sport 4runner. I love the feature, it works great. You shouldn't have to pay an extra 10k to get this feature.

My last car was a BMW X. Automatic climate control, lights, windshield wipers, etc. Even parked itself. I had it for six months, and it spent two of those in the shop before BMW finally took it back. Every time I find myself missing a "feature" I come over here and read threads about people who have driven their 4Runner 200k miles with nary an issue.
I just got a 2016 SR5 and 2 days later started noticing all of these things that are NOT there that are always standard anymore. memory seats, auto climate, homelink buttons, auto headlights. Of course you don't pay attention to this stuff at the dealer because your just use to it all already being there.
