Limited Edition Mod Thread

Got it done today. Gonna look pretty great mounted in the front chrome grille. Gotta polish it and the cut into the plastic for mounting. Fingers crossed.

Posted this in a different thread, but I thought it be useful for the LE thread as well.

Just installed the Shrockworks sliders and their TE trim.

Looks great, I've been looking into the same combo. How was the install? Any issues getting around XREAS lines?

It took longer than expected, but that was because I took a step back several times to think it through. The X-REAS line runs along the frame and is held by several plastic clips/holders. I spent the extra time to carefully to remove them and not break them, but realized at the end I would never be able to use them again due to the sliders (they covered the holes that held the plastic clips). I was also a bit gentle on pulling the lines away from the frame to fit the sliders. Later realized again that the X-REAS lines are meant to be bent.

I stole an idea from someone in the forums regards to protecting their KDSS lines after installing their sliders. Using some left over fuel line hose (5/16") I had laying around did the trick. Put a slit down the hose and covered the line helped protect it from the metal on metal rub between the lines and the sliders.

An extra hand helps with the install. If not, a rolling floor jack helps too. Stick nuts were annoying, but patience got me through it.

Those of you who installed a full length roof rack...

I assume you have a moon roof, right? Is it weird seeing the rack through the moonroof?

Looks like a few of you kept your 20" wheels and put ATs on them. Have you tried that off-road? How did it perform?

With some of the full-length racks for the 5th gens have inserts that go over the sunroof that can be removed. You see this with gobi for sure (I think the Baja as well) and I know with the Prinsu design rack you can remove the cross bars up front. I see guys having the insert or cross bars off and only put the insert or bars back in when they need the extra roof storage for trips.

Also, the issue with 20’s is you don’t have as much wiggle room airing down off-road as you do with a smaller rim size. It’s possible to do wheeling and have decent grip off-road with the 20’s and a good set of AT’s. I was gonna go that route on my Limited but I decided that going with 17in rims opens up a way more tire options than with 20’s with a price point that is more affordable than throwing AT tires on the 20’s. It’s also a bit harsher on the ride and suspension when you have the 20’s because you aren’t able to air-down when off-roading like you can with a smaller sized rim. When I switched over to 17’s it was 100 dollars more for me to get all new rims and tires 285/70r17 than it was for me to get AT’s for the 20’s.

This is what I’ve seen from other guys on here, hope that helps!

The matte finish (which looks gray) of the flag is a solid piece of the vinyl (decal). The dark black colors are the actual glass which can be seen through from the inside.

Looks great! Is that flag in the back side windows a entirely opaque? Or does is it partially see through from inside?

Been tossing this idea around, but would like your opinions.

Red, black or keep it original?

Here are some pics of my Unlimited. Hope this helps.
How did you get the headlight accents aka day time running lights ? Built in? Any fabrication involved. I would like to do something like that to my limited.

So i bought the baja design squadron pros in amber to replace my stock foglights. I also purchased the baja design 4runner fog pocket kit which consisted of the mounting brackets for the 4runner and the plug and play wiring harnesses to connect to your stock foglight wires. I messaged baja designs prior to making that purchase just to confirm that the fog pocket kit would on the limited trim. They said it would fit so i went ahead and got it for black friday. So after a couple of hours of trying to figure out how to mount the squadrons, i realized that there was no way to mount it with the brackets that came with the fog pocket kit without cutting out some notches.

Excuse my sloppy cutting/grinding, i didnt have a work bench or a clamp, so i had to hold the bracket with one hand and cut out the notches with the other hand.
As you can see, there are two notches you need to cut out, to make the brackets fit into the limited.
The pic is the driver side bracket, so for the passenger side, it would just be a mirror image of it.

Once i got those notches cut out, they fit fine into the stock foglight housing.

The squadrons put out a ton of light!

I got the squadron r pros in amber wide cornering
The second pic is of the squadrons installed paired up with morimoto elite 55w 6500 hids.

All in all im very happy with the lights, just a little bummed out with the brackets because the fog pocket kit is 140 bucks and if they said it would fit, it should fit.

Hope this helps anybody who wants to install the squadrons in their stock front bumper 5th gen limited 4runner.

Installed the Daystar 2.5/1.5 and Spidertrax 1.25" wheel spacers on my wife's Limited, still need to move/heat the front of the fender wells to stop rubbing with the 275/55s.
