Limited or TRD PRO???

Does anyone even buy the SR5 anymore?

This site seems lousy with TEs, Limiteds, and BroPros.

Save cash and get the SR5, especially if you have a bunch of other cars. Then donate your LC to me.
Just traded in to get the SR5. Cheaper, plenty of aftermarket Support

If I knew then what I know now, I would have gotten a limited. That full time 4wd is tits

...I mean I would have gotten a pro. You know, because I'm jealous and stuff

Here you go Johnny. White blacked out limited with pro wheels. Takes some time but you can make them look pretty bad as*

Most of my process is here. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...ted-stormtrooper-plastidip-chrome-delete.html

That's the best looking LE I've seen! The wife liked the looks of the LE better than our TEP, but I couldn't get past the big chrome bar in the middle of the front end. I tend to be more "old school" and have nothing against chrome, but I don't like how it is used on the LE.

Nicely done!

Sounds like the limited is everyone's pick. I basically want a limited that looks like a pro... Anyone have a picture w a white limited w trd pro wheels?

Johnny

Not black, but for a hunkier tire choice, I've always liked this:

To me, this look "goes" with the LE's chrome, unless of course you de-bling.

ETA: Another technique I like is to have some of that front chrome painted body color.

Best value: SR5
Best for off-road: Trail
Best for luxury and accessories: Limited
Best for highway-only luxury and accessories: Highlander
Best for spending tons of money on lots of accessories embossed with "TRD": TRD

From the limited info we have about your situation, I'd say get either a Limited or Highlander.

Could also consider a station wagon! :peep:

The Limited is just as capable off-road, and in addition its full-time 4WD system makes it a better suited for road driving in snow, etc.

Is my understanding correct?

In Cali you wont need the AWD so anything else will be fine. In a snow belt its the only way to go. Binding on tight turns in 4wd sucked so bad I refused to go through another winter with it. Reminded me of my International Scout.

Close. The FT 4WD is a convenience thing as well as a potential liability. You could drive either version and be fine here in CA. I personally like many things about the FT 4WD and is one of the main reasons I got the LE. I have not been held back by having the "luxury" version of the 4runner. I liked the auto climate control, real leather, FT 4WD. Now I just need portal axles...

Not really.
- The Trail has better ground clearance and approach angles because some of the Limited's trim pieces hang down lower.
- The available KDSS is supposed to be a huge improvement on the Trail.
- 17" wheels vs. 20" are more functional, comfortable, and grippy
- But the biggest factor is the locking rear differential on the Trail. A-Trac is extremely useful, but to pull out of a major wheel-up flex or big mudhole you really can't beat a locking diff.

All that said, for the majority of people a Limited will handle all the off-roading you need to do.

You are right in that full-time AWD is great for slick roads in rain, snow, or ice. Where do you live in California?

Just curious if you are basing your opinion on. Experience or what you've read online?

Stock for stock the above is true. All of which change with modification.

Both. I have an SR5, so no direct experience with either the Limited or the Trail. The specs for both versions are available on-line. As for experience, I've driven off-road in everything from a 2WD pickup to a 4-wheeler to a side-by-side ATV to a tractor to a skid-steer to a Jeep to a jacked-up 70's Land Cruiser with big knobby mud-grips. You don't have to actually drive a Trail Edition to know that better ground clearance and approach angles will greatly improve off-road ability.

It is a simple fact that the Trail has features that, in my personal experience, make it better off-road. It is my opinion that the Limited can handle all the off-roading needs of the majority of people.

The only thing I don't have personal experience with is the KDSS; that why I phrased it like I did: "The available KDSS is supposed to be a huge improvement"

Very true. But if you're going to do mods I say save your money and get an SR5. You can do A LOT of modding for the price difference between a Trail and SR5.

Unless you want FT 4WD, auto climate, keyless entry/start and factory real leather. Probably a better use of funds to get the SR5, but some things just can't be added very well. I looked at it a little differently: I could buy the LC I wanted but by the time I modified it, I'd be into it for approaching $100k. The LE seemed a more economical place to start. Lol, I do get what you are saying though.

Is this true? When I look at prices on the Toyota website or TrueCar, the difference between and SR5 and a Trail is about $1,100. Same difference with the SR5 Premium and the Trail Premium. That wouldn't be "a lot" of modding.

Then things have changed a lot since I last looked at prices. For $1,100 I'd definitely to with a Trail even if just for the rear locker. I don't think you can get an aftermarket installed for less than $1,100.

Anyway, my advice, just like anything else you read on an internet forum, is worth exactly what you paid for it. Read it, assimilate it, then keep on reading.
