Limited or TRD PRO???

Unless you want FT 4WD, auto climate, keyless entry/start and factory real leather. Probably a better use of funds to get the SR5, but some things just can't be added very well. I looked at it a little differently: I could buy the LC I wanted but by the time I modified it, I'd be into it for approaching $100k. The LE seemed a more economical place to start. Lol, I do get what you are saying though.

Exactly true. If you want the extras that come with a package then get the package. I don't care about those things, though, so I started with base. I specifically did NOT want a third row or sunroof, for example.

Then things have changed a lot since I last looked at prices. :redface: For $1,100 I'd definitely to with a Trail even if just for the rear locker. I don't think you can get an aftermarket installed for less than $1,100.

Anyway, my advice, just like anything else you read on an internet forum, is worth exactly what you paid for it. Read it, assimilate it, then keep on reading.

No problem! I've read comments about an SR5 vs. Trail price differential many times on this forum, so I thought I'd look it up. Indeed in 2010, the price difference between the 4X4 SR5 and Trail was about $5,000. Now that was a lot of mods. (Prices from top4runners.com). The slim difference these days make me believe there won't be SR5 and Trail editions in the 6th Gen, but that's a story for another day.

Yep... :withstupid:I like to ski, it's a lot cheaper to add a rear locker than it is a center differential.

I also enjoy not having to take keys out, unless I'm using my bottle opener to crack the top on a beer. :cheers:

So let's run down how a choice for the limited trim went for me.

Me: Let's get a Lexus ISF
Wife: ok, it has 4 doors, and in our budget
Me: Ok let us go for a test drive
Wife: WTF? NO way in hell are you getting an ISF. A rear facing baby seat will not fit unless I move my seat all the way forward. Try again. How about a Rav4 or a CRV?
Me: If you get one of those beige rolling dishwashers you can go and take care of the car yourself. Just like the POS Nissan Rouge we has in the past.
Wife: Fine, you pick them. It has to be a SUV
Me: Let's go test drive a 2014 4runner?

Wife: I like it, but I want the limited trim
Me: What was wrong with the trail premium edition?
Wife: if was OK until I read through the brochure
Me: How about the TRD PRO that was just announced. It is perfect.
Wife: No F'n say you can get an orange truck.
Me:
Wife: I want smart key, auto headlights, butt cooling seats, auto climate control, dual climate control, leather
Me: Is the brown leather interior ok?
Wife: NO! White outside, black leather inside. And stop asking about the TRD PRO. Go and Mod the limited trim after the warranty runs out with new suspension and wheels.

In the end she was right. I think we would not enjoy our 4runner as much if it had been more hardcore (I.e. KDSS trail premium or TRD Pro).

However whenever I point out a Red or Blue exterior 4runner limited, she thinks those colors are nice. I wanted the blue or Red. She said white or we are going to get an Acura MDX.
