Limited spacer lift - Shops won't install

I'm trying to find a shop locally who will install a spacer lift on my limited but they won't touch it. The two biggest off road shops in town have turned me down. Both shops are telling me it throws stuff out of whack, throws codes and lights and basically are giving me BS responses based on feedback others have shared on this site.

Who else should I contact to do this type of work? Will a local tire shop or general mechanic be able to do it? Should I trust them?

Any competent shop would be able to do it. Most likely they just don't want to be responsible if your dash lights go off. Sometimes lifting it will set off the VSC, Traction, 4WD lights and some shops don't know how to reset them.

I wish it were that simple. I have no desire to do what this guy did, nor do I have the time or the equipment.

You wanted information. You got it. That link basically told you exactly what putting a spacer lift on an XREAS equipped vehicle entailed. Now, it's up to you to decide if your mechanic or tire guy is capable of performing this task. Weekend warriors can do this no problem. We are not you nor do we know the capability of those you are vetting to do this task. What, do you want us to tell you what to do?

Now, it's up to you to decide if your mechanic or tire guy is capable of performing this task. Weekend warriors can do this no problem. If you can return the spacer lift do it. I did the spacer lift on my LE and I regretted it as soon as I went off road. First of all the stock rear struts are topped out almost immediately and you have no droop travel. The ride quality over bumps is awful. Just don't. Get yourself a nice Toytec Ultimate or Boss lift which I think is the best value for the money.

I did a spacer lift and I don't really regret it. Looks sweet, but in the back of my mind I know I want a functional lift. I'm going to slowly start buying springs, shocks etc. to put a "real" left on her. Until then I can fit the bigger tires and look awesome!

its not as easy as inflating tires

well if people took it literal sure but it really is simple. I installed a daystar 2.5/1.5 kit on my old runner, by myself and with basic hand tools. They are top mount spacers that don't require disassembly of the front coil-over. The hardest part was putting the coilover with mounted spacer back on the truck... nothing a prybar couldn't handle... in all it may have taken me 3 hours with a beer break. there is nothing magical about xreas:flypig:

Granted I pulled the xreas the same time I installed Bilsteins and rear spacers, but it was probably the easiest part of what I was doing. The xreas wouldn't have made it any more difficult. All it took was hand tools, jack stands, and a jack. Oh, and I got someone to stand on one side because I had installed taller springs and was struggling there...but I'm kinda small too.

Although I only had a 1" front leveling kit installed on my truck, my mechanic did it for me without any problems. Any of the tire dealer like Firestone or Goodyear won't touch them. And the local off road shops won't do it because you didn't buy the kit from them?

The off road shops I called wont install any spacers period, regardless if I buy from them or not.

Keep shopping. I went to the tire dealers at first and they said they don't install customer parts that they bring. They then referred me to shops that would do it so that's when I decided to just have my mechanic do it.

I was trying the tire dealers because I figure I needed a front end alignment after the install and wanted a one stop do it all kinda thing but no go.

Drive farther out of your area and then definitely get an alignment after the install.
