Well I guess it is time for me to put some input here has I have an 01 with a "lunchbox" locker. Btw I DD my rig. Lots of freeway and city driving. I don't take the Easy routes when offloading either.
As stated somewhere before that a Detroit Trutrac is a great locker but as well you have to employ "Power Braking" to keep power to the wheel that is off the ground. Not idea in some situations.
Lunchbox (Lockrite, Spartan, Aussie) operate on torque being applied. Because of the design they allow a wheel to spin freely for corners and such. Contrary to popular belief they like a little throttle around corners. I have roughly 1500 miles on those locker and had 45k on the Spartan in my Heep.
Now on to your TRAC question. I run the Andy Mod 2.0, while it is helpful with keeping the brakes from freaking out. Even the mod can be defeated. The places that I have experienced this are on STEEP climbs up loose roads. Not a place you want to have that kick in. I did run my rig with TRAC/ASC on for a while and honestly I didn't have the it kick in as much with the locker. When it locks up the computer doesn't see the wheels slipping as much so less engagement.
Everyone bashes on lunchbox locker and say that they are weak and not for serious off-roading but seriously the most that we run is a 33s with a select few on 35s. I have ran 31s and now 33s on these lockers and never had an issue with either. I have a buddy running 35s with 4.88s and a S/C. He broke the pins connecting the two halves and that was once in three years. He is not very "Nice" to his truck either lol the issues with lunchbox lockers comes when you run like say 36in+ tires. Prepare for failures on those sizes. Rotational mass and force woth those tires will destroy a lunchbox.
As for running one on the front: unless you are running a trail only rig, DON'T DO IT!!! Front lockers on the road, especially with IFS is a bad idea. Selectable only for the front. We have an ADD in our runners that lock and unlock the two front wheels. This is basically the same thing as running manual hub minus the fact that the front spider gears still spin. I have heard this called a locker and wow they are wrong. Lol audacity of some people cracks me up.
Traction control has its place. Some situations it is good to have and some other definitely not a good idea. You can't go wrong with a rear locker. The e locker is a great choice if you want a factory ride with no hiccups on the road. Mixing it with the TRAC/ASC system is not bad either. Another option to look at is ARB. Not a bad way to go especially if you going to regear anyway as it changes the carrier.
There you go for my .02 cents
