Liquid Wrench vs Marvel Mystery Oil vs WD-40?

In terms of a penetrating oil, is there really any difference between these? I am planning on doing a spacer lift on 06 4th gen that has it's share of rust and corrision underneath and want to hit the appropriate area's a few days in advance to help with removal. I have plenty of WD-40 around the house, but a lot of threads I've read make reference to Liquid Wrench or Marvel Mystery Oil. If these are truly superior products I'll gladly run and pick some up if it will make my install go easier.

The difference is in viscosity, WD40 is excellent but it's also very light and prone to evaporation. I'd go with a heavier oil that you can let seep for a few days.

PB Blaster! WD40 has it's uses, but for what you are doing I say PB.

this is THE best penetrating oil, ever:

50% ATF, 50% Acetone.

PB Blaster is the best thing EVER!!! Okay so I don't have any studies to back it up, but I've had more luck with PB then anything else.

I swear I've never had luck with any of them. When a nut/bolt has stuck for me, its been STUCK...

But I have always heard/thought PB was the best.

I also vote for either Kroil or aeroKroil. About 1000 times better than WD-40.

Machinist's Workshop magazine actually tested penetrates for break out torque on rusted nuts. Significant results!

*They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrates with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment.*

*Penetrating oil ..... Average load*

None ...................... 516 pounds
WD-40 ................... 238 pounds
PB Blaster .............. 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ......... 127 pounds
Kano Kroil .............. 106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix........53 pounds
Plain ole brake fluid.
Marvel Mystery Oil works well also.

*The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone*
*Note the "home brew" was better than any commercial product in this one particular test. A local machinist group mixed up a batch and all now use it with equally good results. Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is about as good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price.*

well, first look at how many cars and trucks have leaky transmissions out there. then, Acetone is cheap paint thinner, just make the ATF even thinner.

I use a product from CYCLO called BREAK AWAY, I like to call it torch in a can. It works great for me and I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned before. If possible try to let these penetrants sit overnight.

Good info on here. I always thought PB was the best. However, I always seem to be out, while there are always cans of WD40 laying around so I just use that. I will have to try out the ATF/Acetone mix. Come to think of it, I've never had a seized nut while pulling a leaking transmission.

I have started using Freeze Off. Got it on sale once at Advance and it worked way better then The Liquid Wrench IMO. Spray it on and watch rust run off. lol I have used brake fluid and trans fluid at the local pull it yourself junk yards when I didnt have anything else laying around. lol Free to your disposal.
