Thanks! I'm supposed to be meeting my brother in/around Red River to camp and find some trails to run. Of course my wife and kids have been sick the last few days and I'm always the last to get whatever it is after the three of them wear me down. Now I'm starting to feel a little off...
I'm still planning on heading out tomorrow morning but might be forced to change plans.

Ohh I'm the same way always see everyone sick then it hits me last. Hope you get better and enjoy NM. I will be up in red river first of October doing some fishing, and trailing. Enjoy!
Love wheeling around red river! I'll be heads up there on Friday then on to CO for an elk hunt.
Would love to know your favorite trails around RR. I'm usually going up to all the mountain lakes to fly fish. Here is Latir lake from a month ago:

Actually going to Cabresto/ latir for the first time part of the same trip. The first of OCT, small world. But for red river normally depends on season and what roads are open. We normally like to just try and find a stream to ourselves.

Check out 'Little Blue' lake while you are in Rio Costillo.
It's a side trail on the way to Latir. You have to hike 10 min into the lake from the road on an easy trail but it's got some great fishing and usually no people.
Also some fun trails bust north of questa the Wild Rivers area. Some fun sand dune type trails and then you can hike down into the Rio Grande to fish

Thanks! I really questioned going as I felt like ass Saturday afternoon. But I loaded up Sunday and headed out. I either just triggered my allergies doing house chores on Saturday; which included using a leaf blower to clear leaves and dust off the back patio, a likely trigger; or I just kicked the bug really quickly as I was fine down in RR. Just got back a bit ago as my brother and parents decided to call it a day early so they could start the drive back to Texas. Tomorrow (Friday) has a high chance for thunderstorms all day and packing up before that hit made sense.
Aspens are changing fast! Hopefully you get some awesome color on your trip.
Nice! Those are some beauties. First, let me say that my brother and I had an absolute blast running trails in RR. He was happy that he finally got to use his winch and pulled me out of a water hole mud bog. But there are only a few trails right at RR. I believe there are more to the south, around Taos though. We were camped off of FR597 and spent a lot of time on the trails off of it, the ones that go back to Bitter Creek, Midnight Meadows, and Greenie Peak. We also did Goose Lake and Red River Pass.
We took a spur trail at the top of RR Pass that I thought was going to hook up to Fourth of July trail, and it turns out it would have, but we took the wrong branch at a Y. We were out in some narrow, rarely trafficked trail and ended up on a real adventure.
There was a real soil-the-pants part where the trail made a bend with an off-camber downhill slope to an open ravine that went down and down with no "safety" trees. With all the rain we were getting the trail was muddy and slick but the trail had been narrow with no pull outs either so there was no choice but to push forward. We made it over that section with no issue other than a lot more gray hairs and pushed on for a few more miles only to end up at a dead end and then had to turn back and do that terrifying section again, only this time with the driver side to the downhill...We were headed to Cabresto on our second day actually but were taking a very roundabout way. My brother's Jeep started making a clicking noise that he was a little worried about at first and we ended up cutting that trip short as we needed to get back to make dinner anyway. Unfortunately we didn't end up making another go for Cabresto on this trip.

Thanks! I did sell my wheels and tires. The tires I traded to Discount for $50 a pop. The rims I originally sold for the average going price here, $400 for the set of four, $500 shipped. Discount managed to scratch them up pretty good though so I ended up working it out with the buyer for $300 shipped and Discount made good on the $200 I lost on the sale.

Okay, I haven't posted anything here in a while. Since we last talked I started a cargo plate mod, flooded the floor pan of my truck while doing a mud crossing in Red River, mounted an on-board battery charger, and today I finally put the finishing touches on my cargo plate.
Here's the cargo plate after painting with bed liner and inserting t-nuts.
Installed with the tie downs in the "standard" configuration.
And with my EDC load.
For the on-board charger I bought the Slee compressor bracket and mounted the NoCo charger to that. It's a solid mount and this way I've got flexibility pre-dialed in case I need to move my compressor to the driver side in order to free up the passenger side firewall area.

After some more saddle time, this system has worked great for me so far. Even on non-camping family trips I've used those Plano 1719 bins for the family's clothes and gear. It's not as sexy as drawers but the flexibility can't be beat. In less than a minute I can have a flat cargo area again so this is a great low-cost, no-commitment sort of trial of converting the cargo area into dedicated "overlanding" storage.

Thanks! Yes, I put the foam back in. It's extra support and sound deadening -- plus this way I know where it is and it's protected in case I ever want to revert back to original.
I just put two small holes through it for the rear bolts.

3/4" ply. Before I inserted the rivnuts I put some silicone caulk on the hole to take care of any possible gaps. I had some silicone grease that I used on the threads of the bolts.
So for the most part, the plate stays mounted?

Absolutely. The fridge is in 24/7, as is one of the Rubbermaid bins. I don't see myself removing that plate other than to sell the 4Runner or replace it with the GG plate to install drawers. It's just way more functional than a carpet or cargo mat.
