List of Customizations That The Dealer Can Program for 2010 T4R

Just got my seat belt chime turned off at dealer, along with a few other custom settings for the windows. Then went to pick up an over-sized piece of furniture right afterward. Had to leave the rear gate door opened and tie it down to the trailer hitch and the rear sliding deck in its first outward position. The door chime never stopped beeping for twenty miles, unless you are at complete stop...wish you could override that one! (the seatbelt chime, when it is activated, stops after a minute or so). Still love my ride!

does anyone know.....
is there a way to shut off the door chime if the rear gate is open like above???
thanks.

My dealership in town ( not the one I purchased the truck from )
Says the windows down with keyless entry button is NOT possible
First it was " No, no toyota can do that"
Then it was " oh, the manual doesnt say its model specific"
Last " Nope, never heard of it, and it can't be done"

I have a 2011 4runner SR5 and IS changing the parameters to roll the windows down while holding down the unlock button possible??? Or are they correct???

Any input will help. I read here it can be done
Dealership says....No way
Which is it?!!
Thanks in advance!

Old thread bump:

Just had my "Remote Keypad Power Windows Roll-Down" function enabled on a 2013 SR5 on Friday (yesterday). Works like a charm - but they didn't enable the remote Moonroof option (no biggie). Also had the Seatbelt Alarm disabled.

Your dealer is flat out lying!!! :50cal:

Configurable options update

Just bought new loaded Limited. Had dealer turn off seatbelt nag, setup remote start, enable roll down of windows from remote and could not figure out how to turn on touching drivers door unlocks all. Found instructions in middle of this thread. Will be talking to GM about this. Dealer service is awful. Took 7 calls to get an answer on supercharger part #. Got #, but no availability date yet. They're blaming it on lack of ECU maps.

Anyone have a recommendation on which thread to use for tire/rim options? Looking for something a little more sporty, but not M/T.

Door Unlocking settings ?

I want my 4Runner to open all the doors when I open the drivers door by grabbing the handle. I have a 2013 with the smartkey system. It unlocks the drivers doors and opens it by merely grabbing the handle and pulling. The rest of the doors stay locked. If I grab the tailgate or the passenger front, they all unlock.

In the custom_pref.pdf that doodman posted, which is from the manual too, it states in the first table, "Opening driver’s door unlocks all doors".

My dealer told me they tried and that only unlocks the doors when you open the door after the engine is running.

Found a page on this forum that said you can hold down the two fob lock buttons for 5 seconds to cycle through the door unlock setting of all doors or drivers door only. This doesn't seem to work on 2013. Makes a 5 second long loud beep only when you do this. Like other instructions for these 4Runners, they aren't the clearest <refer to my homelink post on how to do it with rolling code openers>.

does the programming of the windows rolling down by holding the unlock buttob work for TRAILS also? it's a different remote from the 2010 limited that i had. so i'm not sure if it's available. thanks!

JUST AGGRAVATING....Burnsville Toyota in Minnesota completely refuses to assist in turning off the seat belt chime. They claim it is a safety feature and absolutely refuse to help. Nice of them to tell me AFTER I spent nearly $40k at their dealership. I even pointed out that Toyota stated this feature was customizable in their Owner's Manual. They don't care. So, someone help me here...there is not statutory requirement for a seat belt chime in MN(SEATBELT yes, chime NO!) and the dealership did not clearly post or inform me of their policy before the purchase. So, who gets to decide what I NEED when the dealership has the only means of disabling the chime?! I'm just really ticked off. If someone wants to warn me that I'm about to do something unadvisable...fine, please do so - I will cordially listen....then get the hell out of my way and let me enjoy my freedom as an American.

You have to look at this from the Dealers perspective....all it takes is one person to have a wreck and than sue the dealership because they didn't put their seatbelt on because the car never "warned" them to. As pathetic as it is, a lawyer would have absolutely no problem slapping a lawsuit on the dealership.

Do yourself a favor and just buy a Techstream unit off eBay for $35 and turn the chime off yourself. You can do a lot of other things with it as noted in this thread.

I got one over the weekend and it took about 15 minutes to set it up on my computer and than make the desired changes to the 4Runner.

I get it. I just don't agree with it. And, that's exactly what I told the Service Manager. My biggest issue is with the term Toyota used in the manual - CUSTOMIZABLE FEATURE. That means it was intended to be modified per some user preference. Heck, you can worry about lawsuits all day. A good attorney will find liability regardless. That said, to be fair the Service Manager did state that the chime is also somehow linked with the airbag system, wherein, turning off the chime could somehow interfere with how airbags may deploy (there again, I'm guessing he was blowing smoke up by arse at that point as well -- can't see how Toyota would design an airbag system that way). Then again, he might be telling me the truth. I can't say for sure at this point without any additional facts. I just accepted his olive branch and let it go at that. I understand people have to do their job, whether they like it or not. Not his fault.

Thanks for the heads up on getting a Techstream Unit though. I will do just that since no matter what settings you are able to "customize", they ALL reset whenever the battery is disconnected. So, I woudl be back at square one regardless at some point.

I'm new to this forum, but extremely glad I found it. I've run into a lot of really nice people on here. Very helpful. Someday, auto manufacturers may get smart and actually host these forums. Then again, they might want to tell us we can't relay certain information....due to safety concerns.

I don't think the settings reset when you disconnect the battery...I had my dealer program some stuff for me and I've disconnected the battery tons of times since then, and the settings seem to still be "saved".

Any chance someone would be kind enough to provide a model number for a Techstream unit that will work with a 2013 SR5? Or, even an Ebay link would be great too. Is it just the cable that I need? Some earlier posts seemed to indicate that I some kind of software was required too. Any clarification would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

With a potential solution in hand, I am now back in my happy place.

Good to know. I was told differently by the dealership...I think I believe you more though. Thanks man.

The setting do NOT get reset when disconnecting the battery. I just had my rig in for service where they did disconnect the battery. All functions are still in place post service.

Totally false!

My dealership did all of my customization requests, no questions, no cost, and no fuss (including turning off the seat belt chime.) Oh and in about 20 minutes too...

I wonder if anyone has ever complained to Toyota about dealerships refusing to provide customizations and gotten any satisfaction? Not expecting that to work, just curious....

The issue of crappy dealerships is ongoing and the source of much contention. Some care deeply about customer service, while others could care less. The ones that care get on the below list. People who purchase vehicles from crappy dealerships have no one to blame but themselves for not conducting proper background reviews of their proposed dealer.

I've got to be fair here with Burnsville Toyota. Since my last visit to their Service Dept, my opinion has somewhat changed. They were helpful and understood my frustrations. People have to do their jobs. And, if that means they have to follow a policy to put food on the table...I can respect that. But lets be clear...a chime is NOT a safety device. In fact, calling it one may possibly invite more liability to bear upon the dealership. What if my chime doesn't work one day....what if its not loud enough...what if I couldn't hear it over Metallica playing in Party Mode...just sayin. It's a sad commentary on society either way. Love the truck though
...thats the important part.

My dealership handled my request with no issues.
