It's the sonar type system. It beeps. The Limited's and Trails come with a camera and don't have the sonar. SR5's can have both sonar and camera.
A lot of us think this was stupid that Toyota didn't give the upper models this option. There were times when I could have used the sonar!!

if it makes you feel better, I am in search for the garnish and camera now so I could put in that option :hiding:
My dealer has an aftermarket microwave back up system that apparently works like the sonar without the stupid "sonar dots" on the rear bumper. $599 installed and it's suppose to be hidden so you can't tell there is a back up system. The rear sonar/microwave systems are great for when it's pitch black out (camping, etc.) and the camera doesn't work well because not enough ambient light to "see" what's behind you. I dented up my previous 4th gen bumper this way (had nav with back up camera, but the camera didn't see the metal object I eventually backed into)
Thinking about getting it installed for my 5th gen.

If you use your tow hitch (towing,bike rack) it wouldn't be worth it IMO. sensors will go off once you put it in reverse. Unless you install an on/off switch when you don't wanna use it.

I was able to download the file just fine. Just recently got some settings changed on my SR5.
I called a dealer in Orange County and they wanted $57 to take a look at it, not even necessarily make the changes. I called the dealer where I bought my truck and they told me $99 to make the changes. When I told them I bought the T4R there, they said "FREE".
So if anyone wants it done you can always go back to where you bought it, should be free.

UPDATE: here is the scoop... You can get the cable for anywhere between $250-$500 the catch is that it is being marketted for Toyota @ a premium. It is the same cable for VW/Toyota/Honda/GM and others. I am still trying to track down how much the software will cost as now Toyota started offering the techstream lite for short term licensing.
This means for a relatively low cost -we, (I), someone, can own the techstream software and can customize the car options from home. Maybe even remotely for the right price (wink).

It's been discussed before . It can only be done with the "Smart Key" system on the Limiteds and programmed by the owner,not thru the techstream program.
You have to hit the unlock button twice to unlock them all.
