i know its a little late to be responding to this but if anyone is curious. they cable they sell is called a mongoose cable. once you by that, im pretty sure you can get the techstream software for free. the cable is usually around $395

Mongoose Cable

Mongoose is the SAE J2534 interface adapter that basically turns the plug into a UBS output for the techstream software. There is a chip in the plug to convert some of the data so both CAM and K-series ECUs can be read/written to. Complex stuff as techstream can irreversibly F up your ECU, and they really recommend you know what you're doing. And at $485, there are cheaper ways...

Other interface options are Mangoose (a knock off of the Mongoose) or Tactrix. The tactrix is way cheaper ($175? IIRC) but doesnt allow you to perform everything techstream/mongoose has to offer, which I'm OK with. Should allow you to do the lock and window functions, TPMS settings, etc with ease.

You can get a two day trial of techstream for $50 or so from Toyota. You can further search Tundra, FJ or Lexus forums to see how each of these interfaces work with the "modern" ECUs and the limitations with each interface.

huh? A dealer lied? Say it is not so!

Maybe the mistake was asking them. Next time TELL them to turn it off and don't leave till its done. Or they could always cite the DOT law which forbids them to do it.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Don't know about you but I'm not a big fan of being lied to. Makes it even worse when I'm being lied to by a place I just spent 40K at.

my previous vehicle was hondaridgeline. Same problem- driving me nuts beeping. I located the busser and drilled a hole in it- problem solved forever.

One thing I was wondering about is the ability to have them shut off that stupid green "eco" light on the instrument cluster. Is that possible?

It is distracting as it goes off and on constantly because i live in a hilly area. It drives me crazy.

Not sure which vehicle/year you have, but from Page 187 of my 2010 SR5 Owner's Manual;

Eco Driving Indicator Light can
be switched on or off by pressing
and holding the display change
button.

Mongoose Cable

Thank you, I can confirm that this cable works.
This is a Drew Technologies mongoose cable. Under windows 7 the drivers for it install automagically and it shows up as a another port on the USB bus.

For windows XP, no magic install, but the drivers are on the disk and you can manually install. You can also download what appear to be the current drivers directly from drewtech.com as well as loads of other info.

The software that ships with this cable is another story...
It appears to be a hacked copy of the Techstream v5 software. With a bit of Google searching you can also find this software easy to download from several sketchy sites. As a matter of fact with a few Google searches you can find all you want or need to know about: j2534, drew technologies, toyota TIS, techstream downloads, etc. Also try an ebay search for "Toyota techstream" you'll find 50 or so listings for various cables and software. Probably just as easy and maybe a bit safer to buy from as the original Mongoose Cable link above.

After a bit of fiddling around with the software I got it to connect to my '11 T4R. Some of the functions worked great. Mostly the simple monitoring functions and test functions. For example I can roll the windows up and down with this software connected, same with the sunroof, unlock the doors, test the head unit on the NAV, test the GPS, etc. On Youtube there is a video of a guy starting the engine via the Techstream software! I thought it was kind of strange but it makes sense if your trying to trouble shoot hardware, mechanical items, etc.

None of the customization functions work. It keeps showing some sort of error when I try to connect to any customize function.

It seems, that there are newer versions available of the tech stream software. Version 6 and possibly 7?
Even an option for a 2-day rental? for $55 direct from Toyota?

I would recommend stay away from V5.00 - it won't really do what most people want to do and customize the functions for you.

Does anyone know the correct version that will customize the 5th gen T4R's?

I bought it from the link in your post, then I paid $55 for testream lisence for 2 days, needless to say it`s not working software refuse to connect to mongoose , i checked all connections, downloaded and instaled driver from13 drew tech website- no luck. disk supplied with interface was empty and as far as I can tell there is no way to getrefund, so far Im out of $113. dont buy this shid, if you need one buy real deal from toyota techinfo site.

Has anyone tried the 2 day $55 option from Toyota? What version is that?

7.00.20 I subscibed today but can`t use it because it won`t connect to the car. interface shows as installed and softwaREREGISTERED.
IF YOU STILL HAVE THAT CABLE I CAN GIVE YOU REGISTRATION INFO SO YOU COULD USE VERSION 7 AND SEE IF IT WORKS. I REAALY WANT ABILITY TO CUSTOIMISE MY 4R, BUT I DON`T FEEL LIKE SPENDING $1000 FOR PROPER HARDWARE, MAYBE MY CABLE JUST DEFECTIVE. I WROTE AN EMAIL TO THE SELLER DEMANDING REFUND OR REPLAVEMENT, WELL SE HOW THAT GOES.

with this settings (from the word file):

P/W Up W/ Transmitter OFF
This function is used to close the windows using the wireless key transmitter. ON or OFF

This will roll up all windows including the sunroof when I lock the vehicle? On my old grand cherokee I have left the sunroof open on nice summer days only to forget when some fast moving shower show up.

Other than that I think I'm also going to ask them to change the Auto Unlock/Shift setting and the Light Auto OFF Delay to off.

Any other good ones that people can't live without now? The dealership is far away from home so this is probably my only chance to get it done free.

you can only roll windows down with transmitter, not up, you can use mechanical key for closing windows. that function appears in toyota software, Iwas there with shop foreman who let me play with his laptop. Weswitched windows up with remote to on but it won`t work.everything else does. I`ve got my windows downwith remote, up and down with mechanical key, doors not locking when shifter moved from park, interior lights going down in 30 seconds instead of 15,etc
I`ve got it done for free, only because shop foreman did that.service adviser told me that if they will have to charge me $65 if they assign tech to do it.
i saidf that I bought my truch thereand vehicle I was demoed has those functions activated, so they agreed to do it for free.
