SR5 -- Curb Weight 4400
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) 6100
that would leave 1,700 lbs
Now I don't know what the rear axle can take, but the manual will tell you. Can you add the information about where in the manual you read 825lbs? Is it a limit on the slideout tray maybe? (I can't recall the limit for that)
Limited is 405lbs heavier with the same GVWR

I read that just yesterday on the driver side door jamb Mike..says 825 lbs.!!

Interesting. I had the same sticker. I assumed it was due to power Leather Seats, running boards, undercoating and sound proofing installed by SE Toyota. All of which add weight.
The slide out tray may also be included in that, but it was factory...I think.
The slide out try capacity is 400 Lbs.

Does anyone know if the weight capacity on the door jamb takes into account the maximum trailer tongue weight as well?
825 - 500 = 325 ????
I would assume it has to, since you couldn't carry anything if you had a trailer on.
6100(GVWR) - 4400(curb weight) - 500(trailer tongue) - ?????(375 lbs of unaccounted weight (optional equip?)) = 825

Just picked my TE up yesterday, the sticker says mine is reduced by 30 lbs. :shrug:
There is a new standard on how to calculate this - that is what has reduced the numbers.
Last year I signed a deal on a travel trailer for my armada. It was within the towing limits with a few THOUSAND lbs. The GCWR was fine, but when I calculated the max on the Armada I came out with the ability to put one person in the car besides me.......
Travel trailer that sleeps 6 and a car that I could keep one person in. Cancelled the purchase and was pretty annoyed.

I picked my TE two days (Canada) ago and learned that the Total capacity is also 825 lb. The Canadian version does come with running board however, I do not believe these type of equipment are related. Here is why;
The SR5 V6 basic will be the lightest of all since it does not have mood roof and KDSS (a total addition to existing suspension). However, it also has 825 lb Capacity.
My owners manual, Page 598, distinguish the weight capacity by available number of seats on the vehicle with 5 passenger at 825 lb and 7 at 1155 lb.
It appears that suspension may be beefed up to accommodate more passengers and assumes your carry on should weigh less.
The difference between the two is 330lb. Is this the weight of KDSS? Then why is SR5 basic has the same load capacity. In the state you can get TE without KDSS as well.
Still a mystery!

Whatever the load capacity may be, I just drove from SF to DC with 1600 pounds of gear in the back. The rear end compressed some, but didn't sag. I could tell it was loaded, but handling was remarkable considering I had some weight on the roof too. 3,000 miles on a new rig in 6 days is painful, but thats what its for....... right?

Last week I contacted Toyota Canada regarding 5 seater 4Runner Capacity (TE, SR5 & SR5 Upgrade) as described in owners manual.
- The manual on Page 258 (if I remember correctly) indicates to take the masload from the door jam and subtract passenger weight to gat cargo capacity
- On page 454, or somewhere around there in Specification section, you will find two rows in table, one states one stating max load capacity of passenger plus cargo of 825lb (for 5 seaters) and another for cargo capacity of 970lb (for 5 seaters).
- The specification plate in my door jam reads max capacity of 825lb
Toyota Canada did NOT answer my question and referred me to the dealer for clarification (very different than US and TMC). According to the services manager in my dealership, Toyota Canada has confirmed with him that the payload capacity is the combination of the two stated figures above (825 + 970 = 1795 lb). The 4Runner editions with 3rd row seating get approximately the same figure of 1700 lb as per Toyota Canada's web site.
Also, I understand the two figure represent the expected Wight distribution of the vehicle.

Rent a small open trailer from Uhaul and you can haul them all. That's what I do when I need to haul crap like that.

Lets see. My handy dandy calceelator says if you deevide 600# by 40# you get 15 paving stones. I'd hold at that to be on the safe side because all of the load is going over the rear axle and it'll probably wallow like a pig. But I'm like 1engineer. If I'm hauling real weight I use a trailer.
