Local PD + Ford = stuck in mud :)

So here's the story . . . . I get a call from a Captain in my FD who needs a hand. Its about 9pm tonight and one of the local PD calls him because he is "stuck." He's on an unimproved road in town which has apparently turned to mud in the warm weather of late. I grab the recovery strap and hitch shackle, but sadly, a friend with a dodge Ram beat me there and got him lose just as I arrived. I REALLY wanted photos of my 4Runner pulling the cop car out of the mud. :)

The best part, it turns out, is he was driving a FORD EXPLORER. Afterwards I asked the officer if he had it in 4 Lo. He looked at me funny and replied, "ah, the truck automatically switches that." Not wanting to completely embarrass him, I looked inside the truck and of course the options are- AWD, 4Hi, 4Lo. I shook my head and walked away. I'll have to pull him aside later and explain how to push the button next time.

lol

I guess cops don't read manuals either. :P

You should have taken pictures anyway! It is surely a sight to see. I once saw a cops car get stuck in the mud. It was the standard Ford Crown Victoria though. It looked like he was trying to hide but didn't expect the ground to sink in. I was going to stop and ask him if he needed help getting out but there were other cops helping him.

The poor cop who got stuck is a friend and a good guy, but don't think that got in the way of making fun of him :). The only photos I really could have gotten would have been back at the firehouse where they washed off the truck but the damn thing wasn't even that muddy :(
