Lock all doors when rolling up rear hatch window

I have a 2016 with a real key. And here is a real scenario:

Rear hatch window down. Front door open. You roll up the rear hatch window from the outside with the key. This locks all doors. You go and put the key in the front seat and proceed to shut the front door. All doors and windows closed and locked with your keys in your car. Camping 30min from the nearest town and no cell signal.

Surprised this hasn't happened to me until now. I like that I can roll the rear window up and down by sticking the key in the hatch but have always hated that it locks everything.

Anyone know a way to disable the auto lock everything when rolling up the rear window?

Saw this exact thing happen a couple years ago -- I think it was a Tacoma, not a 4Runner:

I went for a hike starting at the Jones Hole fish hatchery in eastern Utah. Jones Hole is really out in the boonies, many hours drive from "civilization", and NO cell phone service. When I arrived for my hike, a fisherman had just locked his keys in the truck. Only way for him to get a hold of wife to bring another key was to use the hatchery care taker's radio (UHF I think).

I went on my hike, and when I got back to the parking lot three or four hours later, guy was still waiting for wife to show up.

GOOD NEWS: you can change the setting. If your '16 is the same as my'18, look in the owners manual under "Customizable Features", then under the sub heading "Power Back Window". For the setting "Vehicles without a smart key system: Close operation linked to door lock operation using a key", the default setting is "On". Have that setting changed to "Off" which may require your dealer or Techstream.

I always carry a spare key in my wallet. It won’t start your car but it will unlock it for just in case you lock your keys in the car. When I go camping I also bring a spare drivable key hidden in my gear just in case I loose my keys in the woods.

Yes, my owner's manual says the same thing. I wonder if I can make the change by going the Carista route.
