Locking rear diffs on a 1996/1997?

Is it possible to lock the rear differential on an early 3rd gen? What does this entail? It doesn't come with the option standard does it? If not, are there after market kits? I've searched the forums but can't seem to find anything that applies. Thanks

Some '96 and '97 had this as a factory option. When I went to order a '97 at a dealer I ordered it with the locker and a manual transmission. The dealer called and I went to pick it up and it had the locker but did not have the manual so I was pissed and turned it down. After a long time searching for this combo I gave up and settled for one without.

Probably not a factory electronic one but there is always aftermarket manual and air lockers.

Much easier to have the factory one on there than installing an aftermarket one (labor costs is crazy).

The rear locker was available as an option up to 2000 model year. In 2001, Toyota went with ATRAC (4-wheel traction control system).
