230,000 miles batteries installed 2012
262,000 miles The crack that was at the left rear corner of the battery box on the inner fender. It was welded and a brace added- 2014- it happened after a vacation that included over 40 miles of the worst washboard road ever.
and the bracket on top from the battery box to the front support or whatever that thing is called was added too...it should have had one to start with, but my 'roundtuits failed me.

Is it a bad idea to brace the outside edge of the ruffstuff dual battery tray to the frame? I don't like the idea of cracking my fenders. My runner has 220k on it and has never been in an accident. I use the heck out of it. Wanting to add a fridge and feel like a dual battery setup is a must

Yes. Body and frame move separately.
I think if I'd had the hold-down on the battery box AND had aired down for the worst washboard ever I wouldn't have had a problem. Can't say for sure, but I did run 30,000 miles on it without a problem before that. Mostly daily driving, some mild to moderate wheeling.
My only problem is I'd consider the wheeling I do as pretty rough. My runner is fairly modded and I use her pretty hard. Most people can't believe the places I take it. No necessarily wash board road, although there are plenty of those, but lots of rocky nasty volcanic type rocks where we live
