looking at a 2010 TE, any common problems arise yet?

besides the everyday used car inspection is there anything specific to this model of 4runner i should be looking at or checking over?

any rusting issues pop up yet like some other models?
any known seal failures?
any components that have failed for a bunch of you that shouldn't have?

how's the v6, first thread i saw was people demanding a v8, i too was disappointed when looking at these and found they only offer a v6, that said, how peppy is the v6 in your opinion?

any thing major to look at? i have 3 TE's lined up to look at today and if you guys have any suggestions on things to be careful of or what have you, and i'm talking about the things that aren't on the everyday used car check list, thanks a ton guys, really excited about getting yet a 4th toyota in the 5th gen variety in the family, ha!

Try to look at it as a new vehicle instead of comparing it to other vehicles. I get tired of hearing "It should have a V8" or "The plastic is hard here where it was soft on my other one" or "It does not have LED tail lights." The 5G has a lot of good new things. I now have 26K on mine with no problems or even a sign of problems. V6 will out run most it just has to rev a little higher. Many charts on here with 0-60 times compared to other SUVs.

haha, how else do you buy a car without comparing it to other cars, yes, they should have made a sooped up ver. of the motor..that aside as long as the v6 is better then the v6 in my 3rd gen i won't complain to much, but a diesel or a v8 would have been nice, or even a factory s/c.....it's strange they don't do that most manufactures do beyond that the only other comparisons i'm going to be making is how well it's built and put together, i can careless about buttons and knobs blah blah blah, build quality is #1 above all else..anyways not the point of my thread....

my thread got answered in a one word response "no"
cool, good to know guys. just thought i'd check in here and see what's going on and how things are working out for you, if that's truly the case and toyota built another bomber truck like my 3rd gen I'll probably be driving home in one tonight.(build quality not aesthetics)
 
I have a 2010 TE. It has been dead reliable. The power is what it is, it is a 4.0 V6, adequate but by no means overwhealming. Will you want more power? Sure, who doesn't? :guitar3:

Two things that I would change: The doors have a "tinny" cheap feel to them, and the oil filter is a pain to change.

I have had the vehicle in snow, mud, sand, dirt, and rocks it has exceeded my expectations in them all.

Out of the offerings for vehicles in this price range it is the best option, in my opinion.
 
You cant go wrong with any Toyota.

I have a 11 sr5 with 26k no problems so far.

I did notice the bottom of my doors have paint overspray on them. I don't think I can do much about it now, wish I caught it when I purchased it, so watch out for that.

The only issue I did have was the rubber weather strip around the front windsheild came apart on me, not sure how, but it was replaced under warrantee, also the plastic trim piece on the inside of the driver side window, the piece that covers the airbag kept on comig loose on me, they replaced that piece as well for me.

If you are talking about the 'orange peel' look on the bottom of all 4 doors, it is on purpose. Every 5th gen has it, guess it is Toyota's 'paint chips protection' from rocks.
 
So far (since Augut 2010) my only issue was that left foot rubber foot rest started squeaking when temperature dropped below 0. (32F) It was fixed under warranty though.

I think it's too early to talk about issues, my previous 08 Ford Escape havent's had any issues for over a year, although I didn't read forums and could just not notice what other people consider serious. So I expect Toyota to be at least no worse.

Oh and about v8, personally I don't think I really need it,I'm pretty happy with current engine, I even like 4runner V6 better than 06 Ford Explorer V8. But it's just me, I don't tow heavy campers and I've never driven 4th gen 4Runner V8.
 
The only problem with a 2010 TE is prying it from the original owner's hands.
Usually they have to be cold and dead first.

If you are looking at TE's with OEM tires, that will be your first MOD. They suck. The steering may feel very touchy. Changing the Castor on your alignment will fix that. Then the horn. Replace that little tweeter as soon as you can. It is you duty as a 4 runner owner to do this. You might want think about a shorter antenna. Seems nobody but me and 3 other people on this forum likes what the factory gave us! LOL.

Since you are looking at TE's, not sure this will apply to you, but many have had problems with a crunching sound coming from their drivers seat. But I think it only applies to power seats with lumbar support. I do not think the TE comes with that option. Some have had a rattle sound coming from under the glove box. I think the fix was a loose wiring loom, and it was fixed with some tape or the like. Again, may not apply to the TE. Outside of the other minor things mentioned above, do not think you will have a problem for many enjoyable miles. Be safe.
 
84,000km.....oil changes. I hit the trails when I can and it has to get me to work everyday. (70% gravel 30% highway). I traded an 08 Tundra for this...and don't regret it.

The TE does come with power driver and passinger seats and they do have the lumbar support.

I have wheeled mine a lot Texas Hill-Country, central texas sandy clay, east Texas mud/sand, New Mexico near Taos/AngelFire. About 1/2 those miles are towing (quite a few towing offroad). I have broken some things be careless. No mechanical issues to date. This thing runs really well, has decent power, plenty for offroad and light towing. I really like the performance offroad, this is my 4th 4X4 (3 PU, prior) and it's by far the best offroad.
