Looking at a couple 1st gens this week... Help me decide!

you have to also keep in mind, its a much better wheeling platform than the other 2.
to convert them over would be more than the difference in price.

with exactly equal runners, but one being an 85 straight axle, its worth more to ME.

you have to decide HOW you'll use it. if you plan to really wheel it, get the 85, even if he wont go down on the price.

if its going to be for occasion use, either of the others would be fine.
 
There's no question I'm going to wheel it. It won't be my primary and I plan on spending every weekend I can, until my wife threatens divorce, at Uwharrie.

But at that price point makes me start to think about a Wrangler. With that I can wheel it, use it for around town, and it would be younger; making it likely to be a vehicle I can hand off to my boy in a few years.

I'm definitely with the solid axle camp, going with the '85; BUT, that first '87 you listed isn't bad, either. It has some nice mods, the price is reasonable, and it should be much more capable than #3. Enjoy, whichever one you choose!

haha!! If you dont mind all the work being done and getting a truck for cheaper than if you did all the work yourself... this guys misfortune might be good for you. Keep in mind Im half way joking... before you rip me up for posting this... haha!!

Im also with these other fellas... the solid axle would be best... but those are some sweet 87's you listed here!

I saw that one. If it wouldn't cost me a ton and make me have to find a way to get it from FL, I'd be all over it.

I can't get the 85 to respond. I wish I could find more int he area... Still searching.

Either the 85 or the 1st 87 but kind of beat.. the 2nd 87 looks clean but a bit higher miles than I would go for.

1st choice would be the 85..
 
I kind of like all three of them, although I hate all three prices. As said, the '85 will wheel best, and offers the best platform. Is that worth the extra dough to you? If you're gonna keep it on 31" tires, I wouldn't bother with a solid front axle.
 
I'm an IFS guy, but out of those three I'd go with the 85. You can talk him down a bit. That price isn't unreasonable. That will be one hell of a truck. I knew a guy with an 85 like that and I couldn't how much hard abuse it has handled and still handles
 
I def would not consider a jeep. Having owned 2 now I can tell you if you wheel it, it's hardly worth handing down. Both jeeps were much younger than the toyotas I have now but don't even compare. My experience with them is that they are very unreliable wheeled or not.

Out of the 4 runners you posted I'd personally go for the 85 for the sfa but the 87 seems really clean.
