So I'm going to look at a one of a kind (I'd guess) 4Runner... a 1st gen body on a 3rd gen chassis- drivetrain, frame, suspension all from an 01. I personally would never invest the time into such a conversion, but I'm glad someone did. Apparently the motor has about 4000 on the rebuild. Body looks clean in photos with just a tiny bit of superficial rust starting-- you know where. Hopefully it won't prove to be a bondo-bugy. Chances are likely that's not the case; considering the amount of work that must have went into it, I would imagine they probably found a good body donor. The job looks to be done well, I'll find out tomorrow.
I've been looking recently at all kinds of SUVs and trucks for a work/tool (occasional trailer) hauler and camping rig... Yotas, Nissans, and Jeeps mostly. This could be the one, the best of both worlds: old-school body (always loved the 1st gen)& simple rugged interior that I can rhino-line, throw gear in and get dirty- and the obvious benefits of a 3rd gen.
I've built a 95 Pathfinder, driven a lifted 83 SR5 short bed, 90 Bronco II with Dana 35 front and Explorer 4.0, and currently my dd is an 87 AMC Eagle Wagon (prefer it over my 99 Sentra), and I'm getting the hang of wrenching on my own stuff... If this one works out I'll definitely be doing a mild suspension lift and some other goodies.
Any advice or comments welcome!
