Looking at buying this 02 4runner!

^^^^ Exactly. When I was looking for a 4unner (few months ago), I came across an 06 4x4 with 170K miles in pristine condition in Houston-Woodlands. It needs nothing, even got new tires and the seller was asking 6500. That was not my range so I passed it. I ended up buying a Cruiser and then started spending on it and now I feel I am so close to that price. I feel I should have bought that 06 runner which was in showroom condition.
So Wait.... and get the right truck
 
I agree with everyone, there are multiple members who have looked for months on end to find a good one, and end up getting one. Some go out of their state of residence. When I bought mine, I looked for 6 months every day, 7 years ago. I wanted a black sport though.

The first truck has too many miles, I'd keep looking unless he wants to come down to $3000.

One the second one you linked, I wouldn't buy from someone that cant spell.
Or even take the time to proof read his/her ad. Lazy on ad = lazy on maintenance.

Edit: On the 3rd one silver - not bad but it might be beat on, talk him down. What kind of 3" lift? I bet it's a cheap one just like the winch.

Most of us on here are not looking to recoup any of the money spent on our rigs. I'll take my 4runner wheeling and you can beat up your Jeep.

Saw a post on here the other day of a 4runner priced 15k over blue book with the statement similar to: It's priced this way because of all my add ons. So there are a few in this crowd.

I'd rather beat up an old jeep than a new 4runner that's my DD.
 
I'd get it and just put time and money into it

You can always go with upgrades parts like lift kit and that's your suspension bounce gone
Idk where everyone is getting prices but out here in cali that runner would go for 6-7k easy.
Toyota in general out here are always 2-3k above kbb if not more.

Where are you going? Have you checked the market for 4Runners there? If you are shipping out to basic/boot camp you might want to wait till you get back to purchase a 4R. BTDT

Ok, So here's my current position, I talked that guy down with the white 4runner to 2800+ TTL = 3100$ total spent on the truck. I just spent 1500 in total parts (including the lift - got the TRD Coils and Bilsteins 5100 for the front and the LC Coils and Totiko Shocks in the rear)

I have already installed the Tundra Brakes on the front and I have already replaced the rear axle seal. Next up is to seal the engine and then the vehicle is going to be in good shape. It runs really well and I don't have any transmission problems as of right now.

Check engine light came on for an Evap code and I noticed when I went to put gas in, it kept shutting the pump off! :frusty: Pisses me off so I put the nozzle in halfway and pumped a little slower and had no issues.

So far I am in 4800 + 650 for tires and I am at 5450. I am going to do the valve cover's and timing belt my self and save some money there on labor. My dad will help me and then I got a decent 4runner for what I was looking to spend. I know the work is done right and I have a peace of mind that everything is good. (I don't trust many shops)

OP. Good luck with whatever you do. If you end up overpaying in the eyes of some forum members, consider it the price of gained knowledge. When you get to that second 3rd gen or other vehicle, you'll know then.

I paid right at $5k for a 2000 limited 4x4; 198K miles, day old new Coopers, 11 months ago. Don't regret it at all. Wouldn't do it again with what I know now. Would find that $2K diamond in the rough and spend $2-3K making it what I would want.

I think we've already got our money's worth out of our rigs! LOL That guy's clueless. I haven't had a payment on this truck since 2004. He still has to pay sales tax every 2 years...Not worth the hassle & he'll never bond with them. Our trucks have a soul.

I understand but a 4Runner is more than a financial decision to most of the people on this site. The reason people are here is because they LOVE 4Runners. My GF calls my T4R "the other woman".
What I'm saying is the 4Runner is toughest most reliable SUV ever built & Yota trucks hold their value more than any other company. There's no need to get a new one every 2 years. That's what you do with other cars, sell/trade them before the warranty runs out. It's your money but hey if I bought a new 4Runner I'd expect to Love it for a very long time.

I never worried about breaking something & not being able to make it to work on Monday when mine was new and it never let me down. I could still sell my now for 1/3 of what I paid new & haven't had a car payment in 12 years LOL That's pretty sick for a 17yo mass produced vehicle. You keep paying that $500 a month payment. FOREVER :wave:

Now my DD (Black on Black 09 Accord EX-L Coupe) is strictly financial. I got a good price on it used, resale, MPG & reliability all come into play. And it's damn sexy. If I wrecked it tomorrow I wouldn't be that upset. I could just buy a newer one. But if I wrecked the 4Runner I'd go into a deep depression because I'd need to replace it with a 99 or 00 in mint condition with a 5 speed & we all know how hard those are to find. I cant do a 4th or 5th gen because they only have Auto trans except for maybe an 8cyl. A newer Taco DC with a 6 speed manual would probably be the way to go.
