Looking For Advice: Buying My Dad's 4Runner

Am I the only one that thinks a new transmission at 80k sounds weird? Not to mention potential weird sounds again on a new transmission 30k mi later?

I also find this kind of strange that the vehicle is on its second tranny and showing signs of issues. Especially a Yota tranny. I would look into that more before pulling the trigger. Otherwise, sounds like a solid rig that has been taken care of.

Definately check the transmission. It should habe have to be replaced that early not to mention a 2nd one going out. Other than that seems like a solid t4r.

Also, if you dont want to 4wheel and just get to the mountain and back, why would you buy BFG ATs? Those puppies are expensive (~$230 per tire for the KO2s). If youre just gonna put around thats massive overkill

I had that tire on my Wrangler years ago and love that tire. I had General Grabber AT2 on my cherokee that I just sold and thought it was good however not as great as the BFG.

I'll still look at other options however this is where I'm leaning.

Michelin LTX MS2 (or a newer version if available) are great for highway driving, snow, and occasional off-road. They are quiet, have low rolling resistance, and they will likely last 80,000 miles or more. They are not the best at anything in particular, but they are great overall. I've used mine off-road quite a few times, and I have yet to damage one.

Even better would be a set of winter tires and another set for summer.

A dual tire setup will not happen. This will be a 2nd/winter vehicle for me. It also will not be built/off-roaded. That is not my lifestyle anymore.

I'll look into the LTX MS2 tires when I get close to purchasing. A friend was also recommending the GY Silent Amor tires.

Well, it looks like I will be getting the T4R. Was just handed the book with all of the receipts including the original sticker. Probably will be picking it up this fall from my dad.
