Looking for CB radio

When you are looking for a PA speaker, look for a smaller one and 8 ohm. Easier to mount in the engine bay and clearer. What's the point if it sounds distorted? Also, right angle or 90 degree elbow is what you're looking for- different makers call it different things. Radio Shack has everything you need for under $30 bucks depending on the length of cable from the CB to antenna.
 
Ugamurph so thats needed over the other one? Do I need 2 (one for behind the CB radio and one for connecting to the antenna?) The ones I chose were like a dollar each and that was is like $7 so my total went up a few extra bucks

And beerstash thanks for the advice, anyone have any specific speakers that they liked or have links to good ones?

The one you chose was for TV cable connectors. The other has the type of connectors needed to attach to CB antenna cable. Check for other prices. I just located the first one on amazon and copied the URL for you. I picked one up at the local truck stop for $4-$5. You only have to have 1 for the back of the CB.

So the total for everything (except the antenna mount) is purchased on Amazonf or $127 plus $40 for the antenna mount. I have a $100 gift card to Amazon so that helps.

Is the setup correct? Im still missing the PA system, and am having trouble finding a good one for a reasonable price that is going to be loud enough, maybe a 50 watt??
 
list looks good.

having a cb is great for wheeling with a group.
easy to keep track of everyone or let them know if you're hung up on a tough spot
and the witty banter makes the trip more fun.
it's pretty much the only time i use mine...but worth the expense and time to install
 
I agree with [MENTION=13518]OU4x4[/MENTION]. But, don't be scared to wire it up to the battery so you can have a clean install without the power plug.

you guys say you only use it maily for 4 wheelin? Well i dont do that..like at all, I dont want to spend a couple hundred on this and never use it

then what do you want a CB for? also i don't think the right angle adapter is necessary (i didn't use it), and the cigarette lighter plug? why not just go directly into the fuse box?

edit: my CB set up had to have been under $150. i think i only paid $80 for the radio, $50 for the antenna and mount, and no more than $20 for the coax. no PA, i had a tuner already. unfortunately my CB has been broken for some time and i don't use it at all, but when it did work i used it to listen to weather and talk to random people. (lots of CBs in College Station).

If you're mounting it like I did, with a nearly flush install in the dash, then the right angle adapter is necessary. If you don't mind it sticking out further or its mounted elsewhere, then it's not.

My CB is just for use on the trails. I guess you could chat with truckers on the highway or talk to the dispatch at your local shipping dock if you get bored.

say word. i used this model CB, so the 90º piece weren't nekessary.

i think the OP should check into ham radios if he wants a real comm's device, personally i would spend more money on a ham and then just get a cheap CB setup for talking within small groups on the trail....heck they even have some export 10 meter radios like the ranger series that are kind of a cross in between, that might be a good option...cb is good to have though as if you want to go on a organized trail run at an event they usually require a CB as a safety thing.
