Looking for HID lights for 2002 4 Runner

I am new to this and I have a 2002 4 Runner. Can't basically see anything in the dark with the stock lights (meaning the lights are not that bright).

Wife has agreed for HID replacement, so googling around found this forum. I have read all the 9 pages in 4th gen section and accidentally posted in that section.

I have few questions if anyone is willing to help me out

1) DDM tuning.. Looked at the site, cannot find the right part for my version. I am a noob at car stuff and someone else will be installing it for me .

2) kbCarstuff .. Has two versions and I can't find the difference between the two..
a) H4 Volt HID Digital+ HID Kits
b) H4 Xtreme Digital HID Conversion Kits

3) What are the lifespans of the bulbs? Can I buy the bulbs locally like at Autozone?

4) I like blue tint to the headlight, so 5000K or 6000K or 6500K ?

I am more of a PC Gamer or a computer nerd more than a car enthusiast. My username is based off that.

I am a noob at car knowledge. Just came here asking for help on a model kit that is compatible for the 4 runner, I have. My usual person who I ask these kind of questions is my brother in law has gone out of country for a month or so. And I wont be installing these even.

Yes I did search and I found this site as one of the searches i have been doing and thought I will get a 2 cents option for the part but hey.

If you think I am troll, please go ahead and delete my account on this forum. Thank you for your help

Don't read too much into what SweetWaterSurprises says. He has a tendency to harp on people who don't research on their own first. Instead of contributing or not saying anything at all he comes up with some smart ass remark.

I personally don't know much info about your question, but if you view this thread (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-g...te-search-toyota-4runner-3rd-gen-section.html) it will give you instructions on how to search more effectively on this site. The search function for this site is in the upper right corner. Welcome to the forums and I'm sure someone else that has more info will respond.

I had a DDM kit on my 02 Tacoma, they were ok. Don't get blue, get a bright white. I think it was an H2 bulb but I am not sure if the 4Runner is the same. My advice is not to do it. I couldn't see too much more, and I blinded everyone in oncoming traffic and people were always flashing their lights at me. The housings on 3rd gen 4runners are not ment for a light this powerful so it shines all over the place and doesn't work right. You can spend a couple hundred and buy a projector retrofit from many folks on here, which allows HID lights to work properly and not blind the world, or buy some new bright white bulbs from autozone. I would spend $30 on new bulbs and give them a try, the brighter white ones will help a bit from the stock yellow ones.

Agree with Run 4 Fun. No need to be an ******* to a guy who genuinely is asking for help. At the end of the day this is a place of help, not crap talk. You can go get your fill at Pirate if your just here to talk crap to people who are asking for help. I too get a little annoyed when I see the 100th "what lift should I get" thread but I simply ignore... If you can help the guy do so, if not move on.

With the help of Run 4 Fun, was able to find another thread where a guy did a projector retro fit. Even though he gave instructions, I am not capable of doing that task since if anything goes wrong won't have the funds to fix it.

I will try the whiter bulbs from Autozone and see how they do.. hopefully it will help

Thank you Mojave and Run 4 Fun for spending your time to reply. After Run's help found out there were many threads and apologize for creating another one.

PLEASE do not get a plug and play HID kit that does not use projectors. All they do is throw the light everywhere and blind everyone else on the road, making it more dangerous for you. Don't be surprised if you find people flashing their lights at you because you WILL blind them without projectors. If you don't want to do a full retrofit with projectors then just get better halogen bulbs.

I don't mean to sound harsh or rude, but I really hate it when people just throw a set of HIDs in a halogen housing. It blinds everyone and makes it even worse for people in smaller cars that already are blinded by SUV lights.

Listen to MojaveMadMan. I would suggest looking on amazon for some new halogen bulbs, they typically have good prices and free shipping.

Exactly. Nothing I hate more than HID in a regular non projector housing. Pisses me off to no end getting blinded by these people that think they are getting better lighting. Do it right and get a proper projector housing or just get some better halogen bulbs.
 
DDM tuning all the way!!!! ive had my for about a year now and they still run strong, since im a San Diego native, i just walked into the store and 55 bucks later i walked out happy as hell. i also get all my LEDs there. love the place, super friendly. always willing to help.

Since sticking with stock bulbs you may also want to clean the outer clear lense and try adjusting the aim of you lights. You can get a cleaning kit or just use some baking soda toothpaste and a rag. Readjusting the position is more of a trial and error method but is relatively easy to do. Each light has 2 adjustment you can change with a long Phillips head screwdriver.

I'd also suggest getting your bulbs from rockauto, they are generally much cheaper and sometimes you can get a rebate deal. You can try a couple different bulbs for the price of one set from autozone.

New technologies, products, and ideas are developed over time and some of the old threads don't discuss them. I've found plenty of new conversation has good info that old ones don't. Simple as that.

These have glass lenses, so they don't degrade like the plastic ones.

Aiming shouldn't be done unless an aiming tool is used either.

I ran HIDs until the day I was driving in a pitch black mountain on my way to Tahoe and the lights didn't help if my life depended on it. After that I changed out my HID kit for some Sylvania Silver Star Ultras and I love em! I will never go back to HIDs unless I do a retrofit.

You post a reply that contains profanity, but then you go back and edit that reply and take the profanity out so you can call someone else ignorant for using profanity? Really??? And pointing out grammar mistakes in someone's post doesn't make them wrong and you right.
Bottom line here is your original post was rude and totally uncalled for. As others have pointed out, you could've offered some help or just not said anything at all.
I'm a bit surprised that someone who uses the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu logo as their sig could be so oblivious to the fact that one of the core philosophies of that group is "Being honest/respectful to others is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu".
